Country or Grunge?
When I originally bought this shirt/tunic number, I thought it was somewhat early 90s, but whenever I wear it, Blokey tells me that it looks like I'm going to the hoe-down. I don't mind the hoe-down look, but I usually style this up with combat boots and tights. What do you think, Style Nation?
I don't wear it tunic often because it's a pretty big departure from my usual repertoire of neutrals. I always think about adding it to donation piles, but haven't yet. Maybe I can' sneak in a few more wears before I make a final decision.
Who else is in grading purgatory? I'm in denial, but I better get cracking at making a dent in that pile. Happy Saturday to everyone!
Tunic: Brooklyn Industries
Tank dress: NY&Co (it's a beach dress!)

I'm in purgatory right there with you, made all the more horrible because it's a purgatory of my own making. Only one of my classes is required by the university to have a final exam but here I am marking three of them.
ReplyDeleteI like this tunic and the way you've styled it. What about with skinny jeans? Or with skinny jeans, rolled to ankle length and flats? Too DM, not enough Rad? Anyway, I like the colour and the plaid. Blue can be a neutral, can't it?
To me it definitely feels more country than grunge. I can not quantify why that is or supply a proof. And it doesn't really matter, as long as you like it. What about wearing it open or part open over a tee shirt?
ReplyDeleteI like the use of color. It makes your skin and face look great. Yesterday's reddish plaid shirt hidden under the sweater but up around the collar and near your face yesterday had the same effect -- for me anyways. I also like your hair too. A bit more framing the face today?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking too - maybe steal a guy's belt as well for something like yesterday's outfit? Something you can tie up nicely or with a great buckle.
If you don't end up liking the look of a tunic, I still think it would look nice tucked in your skirt. Maybe Blokey's hoe down is because he's just overwhelmed by so much pattern on something with so much material as a long tunic. He might not feel that way if you did a tuck.
ReplyDeleteAudrey
I love it! Then again, I am partial to the western look and plaid, especially.
ReplyDelete@DMed: I like the idea of this with skinny jeans, or jeggings? And I have some flats in mind.
ReplyDelete@Cynthia: It's a little bit, but maybe I'll try that look with DMed's suggestions.
@Audrey: I've tried that and there is just way too much material.
@Kim: Thanks. I like Western, too. Anything classic country is high on my like list.
I guess i would say country, but I do like it!
ReplyDeleteI've got a plaid tunic as well and decided to tuck it into a skirt for something a little new, and it worked out well. I think you should give this a few more wears before letting it go.
Chic on the Cheap
It makes me chuckle a bit that this is a departure from neutrals for you :) As far as I can tell, it's neutrals with a little blue thrown in.
ReplyDeleteI think the tunic itself definitely looks country, but you've styled it in a way that it looks kind of grunge-ish. Or maybe it's country on top, grunge on the bottom? Either way, it's a cute look! And have you worn it with your jeggings yet?
P.S. The beach dress is totally making me wish it were summer and we were back at Montrose beach again! Sigh...
ReplyDeleteGrading purgatory here, but thankfully the exams are faster-going than the papers I just finished. And no more lecture prep until Jan! I like D-Med's idea. Would the tunic also work as a dress, is it too short?
ReplyDelete@Lyddie Gal: I'll definitely keep trying with this tunic!
ReplyDelete@Anne: I know! I'm so silly when it comes to color. And I miss Montrose beach, too. I'm trying mentally plan a long weekend to Chicago sometime in February. I hope it can work.
@Michelle: Augh for grading purgatory. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, except I get new exams (2 classes) on Monday. My first day of spring semester classes is Feb. 1, so I am so pumped about this. I wore this tunic as a dress before, but the high side vents made me nervous. Maybe with leggings, instead?
Okay, I'll tell you right now that I'm not going to the beach in February :) But would love love love to see you otherwise! Oh, the winter cooking we can do!
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow, Rad! Our semester starts in mid-Jan., so not much of a break. As a colleague of mine at a different uni says, "The light at the end of the tunnel is the train from next semester." Ha!
ReplyDelete@Anne: We'll be in touch about the weekends. I teach Tuesday/Thursday, so it can be a long weekend!
ReplyDelete@Michelle: Thanks. I need the luck for the grading haul. I'll be plenty jealous of you by late May, when I'm still grading and you'll be in happy, summer break land!
