Day Off

Happy Friday, Stylenation!  Jude had a vet appointment this afternoon, so my fella and I decided to both take the whole day off.  The way things have been going for me at work lately, I definitely needed a day off, and fella hasn't been off since July, so he was more than overdue.  First, we went to Hot Doug's for lunch.  Hot Doug's is pretty well-known here in Chicago, and I've never been there and not had to wait at least half an hour in line.  I had hoped that going during the week would be better, but apparently lots of people are off on Fridays, so we still had to wait.  But it was well worth the wait for some chicken sausage, andouille, ribeye sausage and duck-fat fries (thank goodness I had my annual cholesterol test earlier this week instead of, say, tomorrow).  We just got back from the vet, and we're headed to our neighborhood theater to see The Social Network in a little bit.  I love days off.

Jude's best photo-crash yet
Having said that lots of people seem to be off work today, I should note that my neighbor is off.  I didn't realize he was home until I saw him looking out his back window after I snapped these pictures.  Woops.  He knows I have a food blog, so maybe it's not too weird that I'm taking self-portraits.  Right?

There's nothing too exciting about this outfit - just a casual outfit, perfect for running around town.  But keep in mind, prior to joining Stylenation, I probably would've gone with jeans, a t-shirt, my gym shoes and a hoodie.  When I started contributing to this blog way back in February, I think I noted that while I have no problem dressing for the office, casual wear is a little tricky for me.  So I think I've finally gotten a good handle on that.  But come to think of it, I'd probably wear this to work on a casual Friday too.  I'm wearing this sweater with my Gap long & lean jeans and an adorable twill pea coat that I picked up at Target earlier this fall.

What's your perfect day off?

  1. I know my style has been improving greatly since the start of my blog - seeing others and being seen is an incredible motivator to dress better.
It's amazing how much a pair of dark jeans, a jacket and cute flats can transform causal into stylish.

and don't worry about the neighbors. they'll get used to it.

  2. I just love the pin. And your use of pins generally. I have one or two and I never know quite how to wear them, but I love checking out your choices!

  3. You look super chic in the first photos. Very sleek and elegant. Those long and lean jeans look so great on you.
Glad to hear that you had a day off. Hope Jude had a clean bill of health. How was Social Network?

  4. Any day off would be perfect for me. :) Fredhots is Hot Doug's without the lines, just so you know!

  5. Thanks ladies!

AWFtK: Pins are so easy! I just put them wherever. A good place to start is on the lapel of a jacket, like I did in this outfit. Then you can branch out :)

Rad: Jude did get a clean bill of health! He was overweight for his last visit in April, but he lost 8 pounds and is back at a healthy weight. We all had check-ups this week, and we're all healthy. Yay! And Social Network was really good - I'd definitely recommend it.

  6. A perfect day off involves substantial zumba, followed by a nap. And then an apricot and brie tartine at Amelie's French Bakery.

Today, I'm wearing a casual outfit that I never would have considered casual until recently. I wanted to show off my crazy cat socks, which remain hidden inside boots at work, so I built a Saturday outfit around that.

  7. You kind of look like a very casual-chic spy here. I can't tell if it's the sunnies or the stance--I think it's a combination. Jude is killing me with his photo-crashing.

  8. Love your green bag. The brooch is a great touch.

I used to work two blocks from Hot Doug's, but I'd never heard of it until right now. :-(
