I know, I know, Daylight Saving Time doesn't end for another couple of weeks, so it's a little early to fall back. But that's not the kind of fall-back I'm talking about. I'm talking about a fall-back outfit. I mentioned before that a black dress was perfect to fall back on when I either a) don't know what to wear or b) just don't feel like throwing anything together. Another one of my favorite fall-back options is the black skirt/black cardigan/colored tank combo. The tank is a dark purple, so the whole outfit is pretty dark and thus not the norm for me, but dark is okay sometimes. The only downside to a fall-back outfit is that it's kind of boring, so I don't really have much to write about it.
So in other news, how was your weekend and how is your week shaping up?
Skirt & Cardigan: Target
Tank: Gap
Necklace: New York & Company
Shoes: Tsubo
That shade of purple is gorgeous on you and adds a nice autumnal feel to the outfit. My weekend was busy (ran a half-marathon on Saturday) and my week is even busier (giving a research talk this afternoon).
ReplyDeleteIt's this kind of falling-back that prompted me to do the Black Out this summer. I could so easily go to an outfit like this every single day if I let myself. Not that it's a bad outfit, of course, it's just the wearing the same (black) things every day.
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was lazy and now I'm paying the price. I should have been working.
The outfit is lovely, and reminds me of a question that I have wanted to ask of Stylenation: do you think it is okay to wear cotton knits once we are solidly into the fall? Anne, your outfit reminds me of this question because the items of clothing that I would use to form something like this are cotton and a friend just told me not to wear cotton in late October. Assuming, of course, that it is warm enough for them.
ReplyDeleteAnne: Your fall back outfits are really well put together, so kudos for looking so good with less effort! The purple and the necklace look great.
ReplyDelete@AfTKb: If it were up to me, I would ensconce myself head to toe in cotton knits every day of the year (replace with wool knits on the coldest days). I've never heard this rule before, so you should go ahead and wear it, especially if you layer for warmth.
Cynthia: Totally agree - I could definitely wear this all the time. Actually, I pretty much did when I first started working after college. But as easily as I could do it, I'd probably get bored pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteAFtK: I'm with Rad - I've never heard of such a rule! Aside from sweaters, I'd say about 90% of the tops I own are knit, and I definitely wear most of them year-round.
I have a few fall-back outfits - love them. That purple is lovely!
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the cotton knits - wear them!
I like the black and purple together, and I could probably wear black knits all the time and never get tired of them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really pretty shade of purple, and it looks great with black. Super cute shoes, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that your fall-back ensembles are neither pant-based nor boring. Mine are both of these things - though blogging sometimes makes me change this habit.
ReplyDeleteI also like that you wore those sweet gray Tsubos instead of black shoes. It's easy to fall into an allover-black trap, but you're not doing it!
Sometimes you just have those mornings when you need the simple solution. I like the dark pallet, eggplant is such a fantastic color.
