Weekend, New Boots

DSCF5737

This is what I'll be wearing today to teach about American foreign policy. I had a busy and productive weekend, which included going to a fun clothing swap with Jesse.anne.o over in Crown Heights. I got this shirt, a couple jackets, and a new purse (from Jesse's stash). And some of my less worn clothes found new homes.
This is the new pair of boots that I've been lusting over (Blokey has given me the green light to buy a pair). The Born Gilmore:
The leather looks kind of shiny, but the soles are rubber, and I have a decent history of fitting into Born boots. They're pricey ($255), but I had to break up with the $300 Charles David Regiment after reading the fine print, and seeing that they had artificial soles. Come one, Italian made shoes! If Napoleon would not traipse around Europe in man made soles, and I won't either.
The thing about these Borns is that Zappos sells this beautiful color only. I can get them cheaper on Nordstrom's site, but there's only a funkier, distressed darker brown and black. Although comments suggests that it's a very dark brown, which interests me. They are 35% off on the Nordy's site, so I'm going to have a make a decision soon between color and price.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I'm off to the train!

  1. Ooooh! Those Born boots are lovely!

Can I ask how they fit into your GAAD scheme? And why Blokey gets to give you the green light? (You are obviously more than free to tell me to mind my own damn business!)

  2. I approve of this boot porn!

That chestnutty color is pretty awesome.

  3. @LaHdM: The GAAD rules allow for new shoes (I know, crazy right?) since it's an apparel diet. Since I don't buy shoes with the same impulse that I buy a $15 H&M shirt (i try to go for more quality), I kind of makes sense.
@Cynthia: Thanks! I haven't decided whether to go for color or cost yet...

  4. Rad, save me the math: how much is 35%? I sometimes decide to go for the savings and then am disappointed about how little it actually turns out to be. Also, is the Nordy's sale price on line only? Maybe going to the store, to actually see the colors would help?

  5. @AFtK: I think it's about $60? It's worth it, but I have to pay for shipping both ways.
Sadly, there are no Nordstroms in NYC. They're in Jersey and Long Island, but that would increase the price of the boots too much!

  6. Ooh, I like these. And I think $170 is a bit more reasonable than $300, especially if they're quality shoes (which Born are - I paid $80 for a pair of their flats, and they're worth every penny).

Also, according to Retailmenot (http://www.retailmenot.com/view/nordstrom.com),if you enter "SHOES" in the checkout on Nordstrom's by 10/25, they'll ship for free.

  7. How fun! I have still never been to a clothing swap! The boots are super cute - a classic shape but with a few fun details!

  8. Those are really nice and a rubber sole is like a unicorn these days!

  9. Those are gorgeous. I want! I have a pair of Born flats and they are wonderfully comfy. I'm intrigued by the price vs. color debate and trying to decide what I would (will?) do in the same boat.

  11. love the look, the patterned tights are awesome!
I might go with the cheaper ones, or whoever has the better return/exchange policy. (if the color should turn out to be bad)

  12. No way! I was checking those babies out a on the internet last Friday. Sweet! I can't wait for the introduction.
Geez, Rad, I just noticed the texture on your tights. You are a loose cannon Prof living on the edge!

  14. Those are some fab boots. I'd probably go for the color I like over the price--unless it was hundreds of dollars or something. I think, in the long haul, you'll probably regret a color you're lukewarm about more than $60. Or at least I would.

  15. Are the dark brown ones you were talking about the ones with the odd patchy brown distressed leather? They look like they potentially could be cool, but there's also some pix online that make them look really strange, and I think the chestnut would be more flexible and less casual.

  16. @Cynthia: I meant the "black" ones. I read some reviews on Garnet Hill in which the customer was annoyed that they were more like a very dark brown than a true black. I thought that sounded promising, although the chestnut stole my heart.
