Too close?

Too close?

I've seen so many other bloggers mix camel and black (or grey), and I really like camel/caramel, but is this sweater too close to my skin tone to work?  Style Nation, your advice is sought after.  I originally thrifted this sweater to wear over collared shirts at school (in place of the black and dark brown cardigans I typically wear) but I am feeling all blended in wearing it with a collar-less shirt.  My mom wears camel shirts often, but she uses her colorful scarf collection more frequently than I.
I am a few days behind on the project, so I'm back to work.  Hope every one has a happy Tuesday.

Sweater: Loft (thrifted)
Dress: Land's End, thrfited
Tights: Target
Boots: Palladium

  1. Not at all. I think it looks great!

  2. That's the exact reason I have a problem with a lot of pinky/peachy tones. I think a colorful scarf would definitely give it a little somethin' somethin', or you could wear a white or ivory tee under there to give a little more contrast, or just open it up a bit and let the black show more.

  3. I think you can still wear the sweater even if it does match your skin tone, but maybe break it up a little more so it's not right next to your face. A colorful scarf was exactly what I was going to suggest! Or maybe a more colorful top underneath the sweater? So, pretty much everything Cynthia said.

  4. I have a tan sweater I never wear without a collared shirt under it for this exact reason! I think it looks fine on you but I know how I am about my tan sweater, so just go with whatever makes you feel good!

  5. Yep, I think you can still wear this. A scarf or a button up would be a nice touch but this isn't bad by any means.

  6. I think he sweater looks nice on you, but I tend to feel the same way about peach colors. the sweater would look good with a scarf too.

  7. I think you can certainly wear it. I think putting on a bright scarf of letting a little more of the darker colour shine through would work very well. I have to do the same if I wear a peachy/camel colour!

  8. Nope! My skin is more olive than yours, but I just bought a beige/gold/camel sweater from LOFT and against other colors--esp black/gray and jewel tones--it looks nice against my skin. Yours too!

  9. I like this cardi on you, Rad! What about a chunky choker type of necklace (in a bright red?) to break up the collar?

  10. They all took my suggestions. I don't love it on its own; you're right, it needs a little something to brighten the look.

Also, I hear you on the whole mixing out the black and brown cardigans. I've been trying to do the same over the last few months.

  11. I guess I'll just echo everyone else, as a neutral downplaying some brighter colors, this could definitely work.

  12. The ever-efficient Style Nation has taken all my suggestions! I see you what mean about the color -- I don't think it looks awful but just a little blah. I find that sometimes neutrals that I haven't always thought were neutrals (camel, grey, navy) are difficult to style for me. For instance, I was wearing my grey dress pants today and I can't for the life of me style them without black up top. I know they're a neutral and that I could be more adventurous but I can bring myself to switch it up with these pants.

  13. I'm just repeating what everyone else already said: this doesn't look bad, and you can definitely wear that color, but a little zap of something bright would work well. Scarf, necklace, top underneath...

Count me into the Limited Neutrals club. I still feel like brown is a color even though I know it's neutral.

  14. Rad, the sweater is cool. You can wear it with anything, navy, leopard, red, white, etc... Do not convince yourself that it doesn't look good on you because it does. And I agree with all the others.

  15. It looks wonderful! I would never have thought about the problem you see with the color. Thumbs up.

  16. @WWWYG: Many thanks for your positive thoughts! What would I do without Style Nation?
@Cynthia: I don't wear peach either. What color scheme should the scarf be though? Orange? Green? I'm bad at matching.
@Anne: You'll have to give me in person advice soon.
@FL: I'll remix it soon and see what you think.
    @Miss B: We're on the same wavelength.
@Rebecca: Who knew that peach was so problematic.
@Allison: I'd like to see you how wear peach/camel.
    @SFE: Olive sister, unite!
@Sheila: Chunky choker is on my thrift list!
@A-Dubs: Yeah, it doesn't suck, but it definitely doesn't rock.
@LyddieGal: Note to self- find brighter colors.
@E-Jo: I also don't know what to wear with grey other than black or certain shades of blue. I always assumed that navy looked good with camel. Too bad I gave away my navy dress at a swap.
@K.Bean: I like zap. I will use this now instead of "pop."
@JAO: I should have ran this by you last week.
@SU: Aw, what a sweet vote of confidence. Leopard may also be on my "too thrift" list- like a leopard scarf.
@Terri: Thanks. I am probably more sensitive about this after seeing the pictures. I consider you a color expert.

  17. A redder orange would work, and you couldn't go wrong with red here. Or a teal scarf, this cardigan, and navy skirt/dress/whatever under. Or a bright white scarf, even -- I could see a long silk aviator type scarf in there.

  18. I really like camel, which to me is a sophisticated neutral, but maybe try the sweater unbuttoned in order to create more contrast? Otherwise, I think the proportions are perfect. Good luck on your project!

  19. I think your camel cardigan really brightens your whole outfit. It's definitely your color!

  20. @Cynthia: I must find myself a beautiful teal scarf! There is a dude on 57th St. selling them for $5. My mission for later this week.
@Michelle: I will definitely try unbuttoned next time.
@Thanks, Miss Studios. I'm still skeptical looking the picture but I am probably my worst critic!
