Shorn and sniffly

Greetings, Style Nation!  Yesterday was extremely productive, although sadly not in an academic sense.  I readjusted my sleeping clock* (slept only five hours, had a bunch of errands to do), went to work, took care of teaching related business, food shopping (pre-storm rush), and getting my hair cut (really, our hair, since I always bring Blokey along.  Our hair stylist has a major dude-crush on him.  Or at least his hair.  He raves about Blokey's hair to any friends I send along his way).
But the problem was that I was on the verge of getting sick.  And then I wore a hat because it was chilly yesterday, so here's my new hair cut, with a bit of hat hair.  And too much product in it.  I detest hair products because they always have a lot of fragrance added, and because as someone who hasn't outgrown her greasy adolescent phase (yet? hopefully?), I don't need added greasy-ness to any part of my person.  Unfortunately, I woke up with Blokey's cold from last week full blown, but that's not bad for a snowy day.  I'm sipping on my Korean mom cold remedy, which is simmered sliced ginger root, a cinnamon stick, and lemon wedge, with a dash of honey (simmer for 20 minutes and drink throughout the day).  It also makes the house smell good.
Also, please note my A-Dubs styled blue legs, which hopefully adds to what is otherwise a very generic-Rad outfit.

What's your cold remedy, Style Nation?  And also, what's your hair routine?  I been a wash and go gal other than some poor experimentation with curling irons in the mid-late 90s.  My brother's Korean-American girlfriend wanted to straighten** my hair so badly in high school, and when I finally let her, she was horrified with the result.  It was like a perky cable news anchor gone rogue.

*I woke up today at 6AM like a real adult!  Not like the greasy teen that my body thinks it is.
**In Korea, I have what is considered "curly" hair by the hairdresser folks since there is a slight wave to it.

  1. You're looking good for sniffly. I think I'd like to drink some of that cold remedy even though I don't actually have a cold.

I woke up at 6 a.m. like a real adult, only to find that the University (and in fact the entire city) has turtled AGAIN, third day in a row. I really need some of the stuff that's in my office (and internet access from the correct domain) to finish some work. But my street looks like an ice rink. They don't even brine the side streets.

My hair routine is -- get the best possible precision hair cut I can, with layers, because that is the ONLY way to give it shape. Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner pretty much daily (Organix). Neutrogena Silk Touch leave in conditioner. Blow dry while wrapping around head to get it as smooth as possible while not doing a whole lot of extra work, as per Inside Out Style's video. A little bit of hairspray. Boom.

  2. Your cold remedy sounds delicious! I hope it's helping you feel better :) My cold remedy is lots of vitamin C and chicken soup.

I really like the blue legs in this outfit! I sort of forgot about Rainbow Tights today, and it's too late for me to change. I'll get them in at some point though.

I like the new haircut! Is it mostly all one length now? I so wish I could wash and go, but my hair dries in really odd ways on its own. I wash, condition, air dry for about 20 minutes, blow dry with a round brush and fix my bangs with a flat iron because they don't respond to the blow dryer very well. It's a pain.

  3. I love the blue tights with this and the new hair cut!

My cold remedy is hot tea with lemon, ginger, and honey. And extra sleep (if possible).

  4. Thumbs up on the new hair cut!

Feel better, I like your mom's cold remedy, I might have to give that a try.

  5. @Cynthia: This photo was taken last night, before the sniffles took over. Thanks for sharing your hair routine.
@Anne: It's still pretty asymetrical and piecey, but all the hat-hairness and blowdrying hides how interesting it looks. When I feel better, I'll post a better picture.
@La: I would sleep but I am finally on a normal person schedule!
    @Miss B: It's a pretty good one!

  6. I like the haircut and the blue tights! I have very fine wavy/curly hair that needs help to look reasonable. Dry shampoo has saved me from having to wash every day and that makes me happy. My cold remedy is sleep, sleep and more sleep... but your tea sounds awesome!

  7. I like the blue tights.

Your new haircut looks great. I wash my hair every other day, use a couple of products, and blow dry.

  8. sorry you arent feeling well! at least you get this nice snow day as a good excuse to spend the day on the couch.

I love the blue tights, they are fab!

    Chic on the Cheap

  9. Love the blue tights and the new haircut! My hair routine is pretty low maintenance -- which works slightly better when I'm not as long between haircuts as I am right now: wash, blowdry, go, pull up after about 20 minutes. I've got pretty fine hair so I'm a wash everyday person as it gets pretty greasy and limp if I don't.

  10. I like your hair cut and feel the same way you do about "product" and I am long past my greasy teen phase. Your Korean cure for the sniffles sounds delicious.

  11. That cold remedy sounds fabulous. I would add whisky but I like to live on the edge. Of alcohol.

I have the same pre-teen problem with my hair (and complexion for that matter) but I discovered (for me) that bleaching it totally dries it out and I can go for nearly a week without washing it, which makes it look healthier than it probably is. I don't use any product or blow it dry. Ever. This is the advantage of super short hair (Cynthia, I'm looking at you). It really does style itself.

Hope you feel well again soon. I love the stripey shirt with the superhero tights.

  12. The blue tights and boots are fun! I hate getting my hair cut and they put weird stuff in it and I look all strange! I only wash my hair once a week, otherwise I just scrub it with baking soda. I use mousse to kind of define my curls but I'm constantly buying new stuff to try in it!

  13. I love the sound of the cold remedy. Personally, I tend to go with an earl grey, lemon, honey, and either whiskey or rum combo. But yours as an "appropriate in the middle of the day, while not simply planning to sleep" kind of way.

I have the teen problems with my skin. Used to with my hair, but now it seems to be getting more dry, which has its downsides...

  14. I hate all the goop the hairdresser puts in. My hair routine is wash, condition and a bit of Frizz-Ease (like you, I have sort-of straight hair with a wave).

Love the blue legs, the new hair and the outfit - I hope you're feeling better soon, Rad!

  15. Ohmigod. Everyone does the superhero legs better than me. Especially you, Rad; even when you're sickly.

Also, I am mucho enjoying your new haircut. And I'm trying the cold remedy-plus-whiskey as soon as I go to the store tomorrow,

In the mean time, feel better soon. It sucketh to be sick AND be in January.

  16. i love the blue tights. and your hair. nice one mate.

  17. Oh sorry you're sick. get well soon.

  18. Oh sorry you're sick. get well soon.
