But here are my outfits the past couple days. I wasn't kidding when I said that I was taking a couple days off. I started to feel sick on Thursday night, and and so we canceled our NYE plans and had take out and Taiwanese New Wave film night. We were able to connect through phone calls with nice friends that night (they were drunk, we were sober), so it still felt fun. Honestly, though, going out on NYE is kind of a hassle in this town, unless you're going somewhere walking distance away. And we were able to see the Prospect Park fireworks from our 5th floor, West facing window. It was pretty awesome.
I wore this outfit on New Years Eve and New Year's Day. I think if I could exclusively wear knits everyday, I would be a happy gal.
I enjoyed reading Cynthia's discussion about clothes purging yesterday, I bought this dress (Blokey calls it "corporate hotel moss green"- he's not a fan) my first semester teaching here in New York, the day I flew out, right before giving a final exam. I was cranky (I had to move my ticket back 3 days because I had misread the final exam schedule), exhausted, and was looking to "treat myself." But I find this dress difficult to style (low neckline, empire waist, short sleeves, clingy knit fabric that makes layering look bulky) so it may have to go into the donate pile, even though I bought it full price (unless someone here might want it?)
Happy Sunday, Style Nation. Here's a great New Year!

I thought you had styled the same shirt two fabulous ways, until I read the notes. The stripes shirts are both great and I love it with the dress over it in #2.

The Auspicious Life
aww feel better! Our NYE was a stay in kind of night as well- we got take out and watched some of the twilight some marathon and a movie. And we could see the fireworks from the balcony.
ReplyDeleteI really *digging the stripes tops : )
I think we all have that issue when it comes to donating things that we have spent good money on. But- what's even harder is letting go of things that have sentimental value. Ugh. With my vintage items that I no longer wear. I LOVE them but don't wear them and yet I can't seem to let them go. Though I am going to start my etsy shop soon - and hope that at least that way they go to a new home - where they will be worn.
I think the dress looks good on you, for what it's worth. I also like it with the striped shirt underneath (but I am a sucker for striped anything!). And I like how you've used the scarf to manage the different necklines of the two tops. This second look is a good example of things I learned to do with clothes as a result of reading style blogs that I never thought or knew how to do before.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better!
I like the stripes underneath the dress in outfit #2. I think the dress is really cute, so hopefully you'll give it another shot before donating it.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don't have a problem donating items that I have paid full price on if I'm honestly not wearing them, and have no intention to wear them, because I'd rather know that someone is getting some use out of them.
Rad--hope you're feeling better now. I really like the second dress and I think you've styled it just fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of knits myself.
I always have issues with getting rid of things. I am the worst. My sister has no problem saying adios to half her closet in one fell swoop, while I agonize over a jacket I thrifted five years ago and haven't worn in four.
ReplyDeleteAlso loving your striped top -- and I hope you are feeling better!
I think the dress is cute but I also get that our issues with things don't always translate well to pictures. I just put 3 things in the swap/resale boxes myself that look fine in pictures but couldn't be less comfortable ON me.
ReplyDeleteWe *also* stayed in and watched the Prospect Park fireworks from my 2nd floor window! I don't talk about it on my own blog but my beau is going through radiation treatment and while I was marginally well enough to head to the soul night we had tickets for at the Bell House (walking distance from my apt!) but he had waves of nausea until 11-ish so we spent the night in watching Freaks & Geeks.
