Plaid Pants

closet 007
These pants are another closet orphan of mine, only worn once.  I have no idea why they're showing up so dark in this picture.  They all turned out that way, despite the natural light shining in on my apartment this morning.  I had it in my mind that there was an issue with the length.  At 5'9, this is a pretty common problem for me.  Pants that are "regular" length are generally just a little bit too short, and pants that are "long" are often too long.  I was going to pair this solid tank and cardigan with some solid gray pants, but this morning Cynthia's comment about cute prints kept resonating in my mind.  How boring would 3 different solids be?  I remembered that I had a couple pairs of plaid pants in my closet, and dug these out.  I think the length is alright, so I must have been remembering these pants wrong.  Or I've shrunk in the past year :)

Plaid close-up.  This was the only non-NSFW shot I had.  Woops.

I got to the office today and a few of my co-workers started chuckling at my outfit - apparently a whole group of us ended up wearing black and grey today.  What are the odds?  I guess we're all feeling some winter blues and dressing in neutral palettes.  Thanks to Stylenation reminding me to be a little more colorful in my winter dressing, I'm the only one in my office who injected some color into the black/grey ensemble.

Do you ever find yourself unintentionally dressing like your co-workers?

  1. Purple and green= winning Anne color combination.
Glad that your cool plaid pants are fitting you better now. I had some great plaid pants back in 2004-2005. I wish I had them still.
Since most of the women in my department wear dark colors no teaching days, I find myself matching my colleagues often (but we all have such different styles- sporty, hippie, business formal) that we look plenty different

  2. Those are great pants! I used to have a plaid pair but somehow the proportions were just never right for comfort, no matter how much weight I lost, so I eventually gave them away. Also, I have so much pattern in my tops that having patterned pants seems like it could cause overkill.

  3. Those ARE great pants. And your butt looks awesome in the close-up.

Also, I'm loving the green and purple mix with the plaid. I, too, had some plaid pants that I luuurved. So I wore them until they were threadbare, got rid of them, and now I miss them everyday. I shall, therefore, be living vicariously through your pant wearing. (You said you had a couple of pairs, right?)

  4. Rad: I still always think of that green skirt and purple belt that you bought here whenever I wear or see that color combo! So I think I was inspired by you today :) I wonder why it is that most ladies in your dept wear dark colors when they're not teaching. Hmmm.

Cynthia: Ah, I've definitely owned clothes like that. And I keep hoping they'll fit right, and they never do. I don't have nearly enough patterned things, so that kind of overkill isn't a concern for me.

A-Dubs: Ha! You should see the close-up pictures that were too scandalous to post! Do we all have great plaid pant memories? I had an awesome pair in high school that were navy, gray and aqua. I donated them, so hopefully someone else got some use out of them. Definitely cooler than they sound. The second pair I have might not fit right now. I didn't mess around with trying those on this morning.

  5. Those are great pants. I wore plaid pants in high school too, and I especially loved the loud grandpa-style ones.

  6. Those are great plaid pants. I have a pair of plaid pants that are currently sitting in my closet, orphaned. Perhaps I'll have to pull them out!

  7. Cynthia--these pants are so versatile. And good for you for injecting color!

Yes, I've noticed the tendency of co-workers to dress in similar colors and often wonders what prompts it.

  8. Why did I call Anne Cynthis? So, sorry.

  9. Those pants are mighty fine on you. Also could you look any more fab in green?

My department colleagues and I tend to dress quite differently.

  10. I love a pair of plaid dress pants! And those are awesome on you. You look gorgeous in this, Anne!

Heh, yeah, I've had tons of those "Oh you got the memo" days!

  11. Rebecca: Grandpa plaid pants, yes! One of my friends in high school totally rocked those. I'd love to see you work a pair back into your wardrobe :)

Allison: Get those plaid pants out!

Terri: I wonder what makes us all dress alike too. Is it just a weird coincidence? Or do we all spend way too much time together?

LHdM: Aw, thanks! Oddly enough, a random girl who works in my building that I've never seen before stopped me in the hall today to tell me how great green looks on me. Stuff like that NEVER happens.

Sheila: You have a pretty sweet pair of plaid pants too, don't you? And we have a ridiculous amount of "memo" days in my office.

  12. This looks great! I have the same pants too, but for some reason I hardly wear them as well...I'm not sure why. I like the green cardigan with the gray/black ensemble.

  13. Bay leaf: that's the color of your cardigan, which I love. It looks great with those pants.

We had an area group meeting today & I have to say, not one of us dressed anything like the other, aside from four of us wearing jeans (and two of the four were men).

  15. omg. One time, my boyfriend and I (who work together), showed up at work on the same day wearing a pale pink pin-striped collared button down shirt, grey vest, grey jacket and grey suit pants. This was before we lived together, so neither of us had any idea what the other was wearing. One of our friends from a neighboring office in the same building saw us together during the day and said she would have to go up to our office and see if the rest of the firm was wearing the same thing because maybe it was firm picture day or something. :-)

I really love your hair. I know it's not new anymore, but it still really strikes me when your posts roll up in my google reader. It's such a lovely cut and so pretty on your.
