Past stripes

Today is Breton Stripes day, it appears.  And I'd love to throw in a picture of myself layering my striped shirt under a dress, but sadly, my mental haze during the last stages of finishing a project this week, I have no idea where my camera (it's a very slim, green point and shoot) went.  I am assuming that Buster dragged it off and hid it as payback for me taking away his chickpea/soccer ball.  Hopefully, I'll find it soon.
Today is also exactly one week before my spring semester starts.  I know that this will elicit no sympathy, as many members of style nation have been back at the semesterly (or regular work) grind for a while.   I like to spend the last week before classes start fretting over my syllabi and generally feeling nervous.  But then when classes actually start, I am generally pretty calm.  I don't understand the nervousness given that I've taught one class 10 times now, and the second class will have a lot of repeat students.  Maybe I'm just excited.
In the meantime, here is an pictures of older younger Rad (2009) surrounded by my old housemates (back when I lived in a hipster hovel in Crown Heights and every week or so, I'd participate in an art project).  This is one our "bug's eye perspective" art projects gone silly.  I don't know why we decided to all wear stripes that day.  We're laughing because the artist (left-most) had to set the timer on the DSLR on the ceiling and then jump to join us on the floor.

Cardigan: Billabong
Tank top (which is clearly too short): H&M
Jeans: Blank
Socks and skull slippers: Target

  1. Wouldn't that be a younger Rad? :) I might jump on the striped wagon, a day late. My outfit for today probably won't progress much further than gym clothes.

Heh, you "like" to spend the week being nervous and fretting. That cracked me up. Just calm down and enjoy your last week. Oh, and look forward to next Friday!

  2. Haha, god, I miss my hipster hovel days.

I'm always pre-semester nervous, too, and even though I've got my Genomics class pretty much down cold by now, I still fret about syllabi and lectures. It's a good fretting though.

  3. I should have worn stripes today, but I didn't even think about it. I would be nervous if I had a teaching job, so I can understand why you're feeling busy.

  4. I also missed the stripes memo, but I'm enjoying this trip down hipster hovel memory lane.

    Also, ha! "Chickpea/soccer ball."

Hold on, woman! It's all coming together. (I tell myself this all the time as it helps keep my own pre-term jitters under control.)

  6. What a fun photo! I know that week before classes start anxiety (or is it dread). In fact, I still have one syllabus to update. Maybe if you gave the dog it's ball back the camera would apear.

  7. @Anne: I was thinking it was old photo, but my thoughts weren't perfect. I'm totally looking forward to the first weekend of the semester!
@WWYG: Thanks! That's the best way to describe it.
@Cynthia: If only we could go back, for an couple of hours (sadly, these fun boys scattered and no longer live in the slummy brownstone). Sometimes, fretting is fun.
@Rebecca: Hopefully, we can all play along next week.
@LaFille: Thanks! The outtakes were even funnier.
@A-Dubs: Did you ever live in a hipster hovel? I only did for about 14 months, but I miss it (don't miss one toilet for 4 people).
@FutureLint: I miss my artist buddy. We once made a performance art cat scratching post, which my cat now uses as a scratching post.
@Terri: Good to know I'm not the only one. Back to syllabussing for me!

  8. Haha, that is such a cute photo!
I think I'd be pretty furious if my pet made off with my camera. I hope it turns up!

  9. Total cuteness from younger Rad!

I don't feel much sympathy for your semester start, but I do empathize with mental haze. I'm writing a talk right now and trying to keep my three classes (2 of them completely new preps) under control....

  10. Wow, that picture is amazing, and super funny. Great for stripes day!
I hope the project is coming along...someone says "1st of Feb" and I want to have a panic attack. I hope yours is coming along better than mine!
