Norway via Brooklyn

Norway via Brooklyn

Hello Style Nation.  I've been a delinquent blogger lately.  After "ending" my No Repeats challenge, I just sort of let the stresses of my project take over, living in all black and yoga pants for a couple days.  Plus, the heat was not working since late Thursday, and this made me even less likely to crawl out from under the Slanket.  And the cold is still somewhat kicking my butt, but I think I'm going to emerge the winner of our struggle (in about 4 days).
On a funner note, I had the privilege of going thrifting with Jesse.anne.o and her friend S., both of whom were stellar thrift buddies.  I was intending to stick to accessories but I broke my GAAD goals, and ended up with about $19 worth of new sweaters (3), a new shirt, and a new professorial skirt.  All in all, I felt it was a worthwhile and economical cheat.  And maybe just what I need to continue not shopping for a little while (I may allow myself a cheat next time I visit Anne, although I will try to keep it professional shoe oriented).
The crazy thing is that I read The Waves' post on her own shopping desires during GAAD and I thought, "I'm gonna go thrifting and probably break GAAD anyway."  I did this not only because I wanted new stuff (I've now been on GAAD for about 6 months) but also because of the stress related to my uber-project (of which I am making strides, but can feel overwhelming).  I plan to do a big closet sweep, after March 18 (when my next two projects have to be done).
Here is one of the new sweaters.  Blokey calls this "crazy but cute."  I was probably influenced by other bloggers wearing Scandinavian sweaters.  This one was quite boxy, wee short in the arms, but has awesome clasps that allowed me to close the sweater in a different way, and the arm length was remedied by a slight longer undershirt.

Happy weekend, Style Nation.  I am actually taking a few hours off tonight to spend time with friends, but then back to the grind.

Shirt: Gap (old)
Sweater: Fjord Fashion (made in Norway), thrifted
Skirt: Urban Outfitters (about 3 1/2 years old)
Tights: Target
Boots: MIA

  1. Sorry abou you heat and you cold. I love Norwegian sweaters. I never see any in thrift stores here, maybe because there are so many Norwegians.

  2. I thrifted a sweater nearly like this! Sounds like yours may be of a higher quality. Stay warm.

  3. That sweater alone was worth breaking GAAD for, but that's why I could never do GAAD.
Looking good, I like it with the tights too. Enjoy your much needed time off. I might do the same tonight, Packers are playing!

  4. Fantastic find - I think you did good. I'm impressed with your GAAD efforts. I keep thinking I want to do it....then I buy something new. Ooops!

  5. Great sweater, and I really like how you've styled it. Your reasons for loosening GAAD seem entirely reasonable to me.

  6. Sweet sweater! I've got my (Norwegian) grandmother's Norwegian sweater that I love but it's both a touch too small for me and WAY too warm for me. Pairing it with the skirt and tights might both help cool it down and, here, punks it up nicely! I'm not sure that a cheat of less than $20 should even count as a cheat!

  7. Nice sweater! I like how you've paired it with colourful tights and tough boots. I would have been tempted to cheat on GAAD too ;)

  8. 6 months without shopping is pretty darn good, and it really can become an important activity affecting ones ability to function properly.

  9. @Rebecca: That's so funny and probably too!
@Terri: Yeay for thrifting wintry sweaters!
@Miss B: Thanks, I hope you enjoyed the game.
@Eek: Yes, it can be hard at times, but luckily, I gave myself some wiggle room.
@K.Bean: Thanks. I was hoping to move beyond matronly.
@E-Jo: Your Norwegian grandma sounds cool. Did she feed you lutefisk?
@Allison: Thanks! I like tough boots with everything. I try to avoid pairing them with suits.
@LyddieGal: I agree. I've not been in the mood for shopping much, but Thursday was much needed.

  12. I still totally love that sweater and I'm so glad you were able to make it - sorry it was such a short hit-and-run! One day we'll actually get to sit down over coffee or something after trying on clothes in front of each other the hour prior.

I am wishing you the best of the best productivity and ease and smarts and all that on your project!

  13. Best. Sweater. Ever! My sweetie may soon be moving to Norway (or Singapore), and if he heads to Scandinavia a sweater like that will be on his "must buy for Katie" list!
