Stormy Monday

Ida, Cesar and Me

Edit: One subway ride and a good convo with a fellow prof later, and I'm feeling a bit less stormy. Note how my good friends, Ida Wells and Cesar Chavez are brightening my mood.

Do I look a stormy myself? Sorry, I tried to be less grey and cloudy, but I'm a bit annoyed at the moment, as I received a pretty irresponsible email from one of my M.A. students. But I shan't let it ruin my Monday. Today will be a good day, and I'm inaugurating tights season, as the high will not go above 70 degrees today.
Upon inspecting this outfit, I've decided that I'm looking awkward. But that's what the office blazer is for! I may upload another photo later on the day.
Hope your Monday is more sunshiney and cheerful than mine.

Shirt: Uniqlo
Belt: Gap
Skirt: H&M
Tights: Uniqlo
Shoes: Naturalizer

Edit: Office Blazer: Esprit

  1. You do look very grey and cloudy indeed. You don't really look awkward, but the office blazer will probably make you feel better with its little shell of professorial power.

After this summer I'm totally cheerful about the grey, wet and stormy. At least once we get past the potential flash flooding tonight. Our long regional nightmare of extreme heat seems to be over. Daytime highs predicted to be below 80 for the next week, oh joy...it's BOOT WEATHER at last.

  2. Cynthia: Yeay for boots weather (well, for me, when the rain lets up).

  3. Hope you have a good day! You can give more color shots if you want. Red flat maybe? It rained very much here in the morning. I wanted to go back into my bed and sleep more. Monday is always so hard!

  4. The office blazer looks great with this skirt and shirt, and I am a fan of the neutral color palette!

I'm sorry to read about the email, but I'm glad that you aren't letting it set a negative tone for your week.

  5. I like this semi-casual look a lot - the denim skirt is perfect (those are so hard to find) with the blazer.

Hope your Monday clears, both weather-wise and metaphorically. :)

  6. @Miss Studious- I am currently on a shopping ban (GAAD), although I think shoes are allowed, I will only allow my self to replace things that wear out. But I will put colored flats on my "to buy in 10 months" mental list.
@LHdM: Thanks, it seems to be my major color palette. It's not easy to let things go when a students disappoints, but we have a lot of fun things to discuss in seminar, and paper expectations, so it will work out well!
@Shelia: I think semi-casual on a rainy day works! This skirts gapes a bit at the waist, which is why the blazer is necessary. I hope that your Monday is great too.

  8. I think you're right on with office blazer edit! You seem waaaayyyy happier in the edited pose - which may be part of the reason I'm loving the second photo so very, very much (despite its lack of under-door cat paws).

Also, for the record, I don't think you need colour with this ensemble. The neutral mix is totally working for you.

'Sorry to hear your student's disappointing. It sucketh when you have high hopes for people, but they have different agendas.

I've got a student who has emailed and dropped in (outside of office hours) twice thus far. And she keeps saying (and typing) that she wants to "probe me" on one issue or another. I'm taking questions, to be sure, but I have a strict "no student probes" policy.

  9. Oy, yes, the irresponsible email. In a job that has so many fine points, it's one of the prickly ones. However....you look ready to vanquish the irresponsible in this trim, no-nonsense outfit. Tights are back at last! Hallelujah!

  10. @Rebecca and Gina: Thanks! Office Blazer to the rescue.
@A=Dubs: No one should probe the A-Dubs!
@Charlotte: I'm always happy to hear how more established profs deal with this. Hopefully, the blazer will demonstrate to the students who come to class today that I am in business mode!

  11. I'm glad you're feeling better! It's hard to not let bad thigns ruin your day.... at least it is for me.

The paws are sooo cute! I wasn't a cat person before but living with my in-laws and my SIL's cat made me want a fat lazy one just like hers.

I love it with the office blazer. Doesn't look awkward at all!

  13. We all agree, the office blazer is it. I'm glad you are smiling, it made me smile. Way to rock the grey/brown combo. Where's Anne? It usually is a double post on Mondays.

  14. I'm also loving the office blazer with this outfit.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficult email. It's definitely different being in front of, rather than among, the grad students isn't it? I'm still trying to sort out how to compose myself in front of them. I think I'm falling way too far on the "let's be friends" side in a way I really don't do with my undergrads (who I think find me on the stern side).

  16. Ooh, quite cute! This weather we've been having is so odd, isn't it? I had a commercial audition on Monday, and having to puff your hair back up in a tiny public restroom is never a pleasant experience.

But this is cute and pragmatic! You don't look toooo stormy. . . ;)
