Springy in the fall

Springy in the fall, originally uploaded by Cohabitating_Closet.

Happy Monday, Stylenation! Only 3 days until Autumn starts! I thought I'd dress in denial with this green A line skirt. It's very "Spring" colored, but I don't pay attention to season appropriateness anymore. The point of GAAD is to wear everything, right? Today, I'll be teaching my heavy load (3 classes, including a 2 hour grad seminar) so I thought I'd go with the stretchy, comfy cardigan on top. I've been thinking about my work uniform, and the skirt-cardigan-shirt (usually belt, but the waist on this skirt doesn't quite work with a belt) is pretty standard. This would also work with the office blazer, but that's in Manhattan right now (where I will soon be bound).

Blokey and I had a great time on our minibreak in Asbury Park. Yep, minibreaks mean true love. I really like visiting AP, but it's such a strange place. Like, if the town is 75% African American, how come I only saw white folks on the public boardwalk and beach? Also, the lifeguards whistled me out of the water. Evidently, hurricane season means bad rip tides.

Yes, Greetings from Asbury Park!

Legendary Wonder Bar (and not so legendary big cars)

(Blokey wanted me to take a picture of the towny part of AP, which is not thriving)

cardigan: Loft (thrifted)
skirt: Tulle via Presence (Chicago)
shoes: 9 West (ages ago)
t shirt: H&M

  1. I like that outfit! A sort of earthy green like that can definitely be a fall color. I happen to be wearing greens today too, by wardrobe-challenge necessity. I'm really not an "in season" dresser, though. I like the colors I like, which are mostly from what people consider "winter" and "spring" palettes, year 'round. I don't move clothes out of my closet seasonally (except for coats and a couple of big wooly sweaters/sweaterdresses) because summer temperatures last half the year here and lightweight items can remix year 'round. The idea of a seasonal rotation that starts on Memorial Day and ends on Labor Day has a very northeast/upper Midwest regional bias.

  2. I love this skirt so much, and I think it's perfect for fall! The fabric is heavier (right?), and it's close to being jewel-toned, which screams fall to me.

I'm glad you guys had a nice weekend away! Boy, and can you believe that fall starts this week? Where has this year gone?

  3. I really like the bright green skirt. I'm in fall wardrobe mode right now, but it has been cold and rainy here.

  4. I think pairing your green skirt with the gray cardi makes it a perfect transitional look!

AP looks like a fun weekend getaway...

  5. I have a skirt this color that I wear year-round. It looks great with eggplant in the colder months, and with violet in the warmer ones. The gray cardigan is a fine choice, too.

  6. I'm with the others: the skirt's a perfect colour for fall. Also, it hugs your curves like nobody's business, but still looks profesh and awesome. And I hope this ensemble serves you well comfort-wise during this very long day.

Finally, excellent Bridjet Jones reference. I am convinced I can spot even the most opaque Jones ref. It's an important, important skill that I work hard to maintain.

  7. I'm not one for ruling colors to seasons, but if we are meant to go darker in the fall, I think the jewel toned skirt fits. I think fabric speaks more to season than color -- your knit reads very fall.

  8. spring, fall, - they're both transitional seasons, right? i'm with Cynthia and LyddieGal as far as not linking color/style of clothes to season all that much (altho i do dress for the weather in practical terms - protection from elements, temp regulation, etc.)

i'm pretty hard to embarrass, but once when a lifeguard whistled me out of the lake - that did it! (and i was a teenager at the time). over here on the edge of the Pacific (worst name ever!) there's not a whole lot of lifeguards on the beach. it's so cold, riptides, sharks, cliff-ridden rocky coasts, etc. that anyone with any sense just stays the hell out of the ocean.

glad you had a great micro-vac!!! & have fun in the Big Apple!

  9. Ha! I totally dressed in a spring outfit today, but figured I didn't care! I love the green skirt - the color is so nice and rich! Plus the block of color on the bottom of the cardigan matches up with your waistline and the skirt so nicely!

  11. I like this uniform, especially the bright green skirt with the neutral grey, ooooh, the tension!
Yes, riptides bad, not letting Rad put herself in danger, good.

  12. I love these pieces and they look fantastic together! I definitely am struggling with how to wear my springy pieces before they have to be packed away for months.
