Neutrals

As much as I love color in my outfits, sometimes it's nice to just rock some neutrals.  I've been avoiding button-down shirts for a while since they don't always look very flattering on me (a conversation that I had with Rad while she purchased this shirt, oddly enough), but I took Sal's suggestion of belting a button-down shirt, and that seems to have added some much needed definition and detail to a plain black shirt.  Not content to go entirely neutral, I added a pop of color with a green beaded necklace.

How do you spruce up your neutrals?

Shirt, Pants, Belt and Necklace: New York & Company (wow, I actually didn't realize that until just now)
Shoes: Aerosoles

  2. I like NY&Co clothes, too--they tend to be classic but fun, and that's certainly the case here. I'm glad you did green for your pop of color instead of red--green looks great with neutrals, I think. Yesterday (hot) I did all neutrals to class--white button-up shirt, gray skinny jeans, gray flats. Had it been less hot, I might have worn a belt or scarf or cardigan in a non-neutral. As it was, I wore my dark gray pearls. They reminded me of black ice!

  4. When I wear neutrals I try to avoid large solid blocks of color. So today, although I'm wearing all charcoal grey on top, I've got a couple of different textures to break it up; yesterday my dress was really all neutrals (white, taupe, brown, navy, dusty purples) but because of the pattern it seems not neutral at all. Etc. You're going for a much more subtle version of that approach with the belting and the pants texture, which looks great btw.

  5. You look great. I love everything. The belted shirt reminds me of something V of grit&glamour wore. Seriously.
As for neutrals, have you seen my blog? I can't get enough of them.

  6. Neutrals are wonderful colors too! I like mine with just a pop or two of color or mixed with each other.

  7. I love neutrals, either all in the same colors (all blacks) or mixed up together. I am really looking forward to putting brown, black and grey together. I had some great outfits last year with those.

Great outfit. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!
