Happy Camper

Happy Friday, everyone!  Tomorrow begins a 3-day weekend for many of us, and I couldn't be happier.  This afternoon I'm going camping at a state park up near Wisconsin, along Lake Michigan, with Jude, my fella and 8 of my closest friends.  Unfortunately, I have to go to work before that, so today's outfit is more casual Friday, and less outdoorsy.  Although camping in suburban Chicago (and let's face it, anything between here and Milwaukee is kind of considered suburban Chicago) is probably more like hanging out in someone's backyard grilling, having a few beers and making s'mores, than roughing it in actual wilderness.  Still, every now and then, it's really nice to get away from the city to unwind, slow down and see actual stars at night.

But about the clothes - this is my first open cardigan.  I bought it because I absolutely love the color, and it's lightweight knit, so it's super comfy.  If you hadn't noticed, I own a ton of cardigans, but the lack of buttons did present a new challenge for me to style.  Like a nerd, I googled how to wear them and came up with this belted ensemble.  How else can I wear it?

What are your plans for this holiday weekend?  And academics - how was your first full week back at school?

Cardigan: New York & Company
Tee: Loft
Belt: Target
Jeans: Gap (Long & Lean)
Sandals: Privo by Clarks (via a shoe shopping trip with Rad)
Necklace: Gifted

  1. Yeay, what a fun shopping trip! I may have to do that again with you sometime next year for amazing boots.
You're rocking the open cardigan and looking long and lean. Enjoy camping and your three day weekend.

  2. This looks quite pulled together. I have my eye on an open cardigan, too--I plan to wear mine loose and...open! But that's the way I wear button-up cardigans too.
Have a great time this weekend!

  3. I LOVE the belted cardigan! That's a look that I wear a LOT. The color of yours is so pretty and looks great on you.

You can wear it open with a shirt belted underneath. It seems long enough that you could probably tie it too, if you wanted to.

    Have fun this weekend!

  4. I like the belted cardigan. It flatters your waist and the color is super cute.

  5. I ended up wearing an open cardigan today too, and I even tried a belt after I saw this post, but I must not be doing belting right, because it always looks bunchy on me. I ended up letting everything flow! You look fab though.

  6. Day of the open cardigan! : ) I'm wearing one too- loose over a simple black dress.

I like the way you wore it belted - dressy casual : )

  7. I love not camping. I have a mug that says so.

But I love to see stars. Hope you have an awesome time.

Classes don't start until next Wednesday here so I will be writing and re-writing my syllabuses all weekend and photocopying handouts I should have sent to the printer way before now. So, pretty much the same thing I do every Labour Day weekend. Unless of course Earl shuts me down.

  8. Oh yes, and you look great! I like the belted cardi on you but I cannot make that look work on me.

Also, do you have a red toaster? Colour me green. (see what I did there?)

  9. I too like the belted cardy, and I'm making mental notes to try that with an open cardy as soon as it stops being so hot here. My open cardy is grey, though, so not as lovely as that green.

  10. Rad: An Andersonville boot shopping trip sounds wonderful!

Charlotte: That's how I typically wear my button-up cardigans too, and I did lose the belt once I left work. Open was definitely more comfortable!

Melissa: Thanks for the suggestions! I love your belted cardi looks too :)

Rebecca: Thanks! I own way too many tops in that color, but it is definitely a good color.

Cynthia: Mine did bunch up a little during the day and needed some adjusting, so I can understand that.

D-Med: I love not camping about 354-355 days a year too :) And that's actually our second red toaster! The first one (same exact model) died, but I had to replace it with another red toaster. Even if that means toaster replacement every 5 years or so.

Kelly: Oooh, but you can do a lot with a grey cardigan! I'd love to see what you do with yours once the weather cools off.

  11. I love open cardigans (if you can even call them that -- isn't the definition of cardigan something with buttons?) I've worn them open, knotted, belted, and tucked into a skirt.

Hope you are enjoying the long weekend, and who wants to rough it in the wilderness anyway? that's so overrated :)
