A Black Dress Never Fails

Happy Monday, all!  I can tell it's Monday because nothing seems to be cooperating.  My body, sore from an apparently intense work-out yesterday (as I write this, I'm watching my fella limp around the apartment - I guess we both overdid it!), and reacting to all kinds of fun allergens, would much rather I had stayed in bed today.  And my pictures?  Talk about uncooperative.  I made the mistake of taking them before I put any make-up on.  I've done this before, and it's not been an issue, but it's bad today.  I look exhausted, and the dark circles under my eyes are matching my black dress way too much.  Happens to the best of us, I suppose.  It's a shame too, becuase I was excited to show off my new haircut - an angled bob!  So I'm just going to go headless today.  After all, it works so well for the ladies of IPF, Kelly and Away from the Keyboard, to name a few.  At least I got the pose kind of right :)

But the thing that is working right today is my outfit.  This black dress, previously remixed here, is definitely one of my favorite fall-back pieces.  It never fails me.  I mean, it's a black dress, so it's super versatile.  It's also really comfortable, and one of the best-fitting things I own.  Today I paired it with one of my favorite cardigans, and a simple red belt.  I'd rather be wearing my jammies and curled up on the couch, but this outfit isn't bad either.

What do you wear when you'd rather just stay in bed?

Dress, Cardigan & Belt: Target

  1. I usually end up in a comfy knit dress and a cardigan on days when I feel less than fab. Today I should really be wearing a comfy potato sack but because I have set myself a wardrobe challenge I am instead quite uncomfy.

  2. I usually go with a jersey dress and comfy cardi or now my harem pants (for non-teaching days) when I'd rather be wearing pjs.

I love the pop of red here! I hope your Monday turns around!

  3. I can't wait to see your hair cut. Way to style that red belt with the black and white. Classic.
I also like a jersey dress/tunic over leggings when I'd rather stay in bed. I also like to wear that when I'm happy to be out of bed but annoyed to be at, say, a meeting. (Wearing a blazer makes it polished, right?)
    You're looking fab, as usual.

  4. I like that you wore a red belt with this outfit.

Depending on the weather, I usually grab a jersey or sweater dress and wear it with tights when I want to be comfortable.

  5. You may be feeling futsy, but the outfit is anything but. Super-charged, Anne!

  6. Way to keep things awesome fashion-wise, even when everything else feels el-crappo.

Also, while I, too, am looking forward to checking out the new haircut, I can't help noting how EASY it is to do outfit photos if you don't put your head in them. Isn't it? It totally is easier. And I get way fewer thumb blisters from pressing the "photo erase" button on my camera.

  8. Black, white and red really is a fab combination!
    Hope your feeling better soon.
When I'd rather be in pjs, I often go for leggings and loose cardigans.

  10. Terrific outfit Anne. I love the red belt and want to borrow the cardigan please.
Instead of pjs I usually wear my snakeskin leggings. They help scare away the blahs.

  11. I love the red belt! Perfect pop of color with the black and white. This look is about as far from uncooperative jammie-craving Monday as I can imagine.
