Note to Self: Avoid Sunset Photos

08/01/11
So you guys might already know this, but I do outfit photos the day before sometimes.  This is one of those times.  I snapped these pictures last night when Fella and I got home from his softball game, at about 6:30.  The sun was going down, which is pretty, but makes for horrible lighting on my porch.  Oh well.  Let me reconstruct this outfit for you.  I'm wearing this dressthis cardiganthis belt and these wedges.  As for Meko, she's sporting a new collar from our friendly neighborhood pet boutique in this photo crash, since her old one kept loosening itself up and nearly falling off.  I said last week that I was feeling a serious style rut because of the weather, and I guess because of my desire for fall dressing to return.  Belting over a cardigan isn't that exciting, but it's still an improvement.  What other little things can break the rut?

  1. Now I know why you get your blog posts done so early in the day; your secret has been revealed! :)
I have been boosting my jewelry collection this summer, as my "layering" options. I just can't bear the thought of a sweater, even a short-sleeved one. I have 3 that I bought this season that are just gazing forlornly from my closet at me.

  2. Oh, I don't hide that fact!  Doing pictures ahead of time helps me figure out if an outfit is going to work, while also cutting down on my stress in the morning - I have enough of that! :)

  3. I love that dress.  I think the key to mixing things up in the heat and humidity is all about the accessories. I wear a ginormous ring or a scarf as a belt and call it a day.  Admittedly, I have indulged in not caring about my appearance at all most days this summer because I'm either working from home or on a semi-deserted campus in my office with the door closed.

  4. Go you -- the belting looks good.  As for other rut-breaking strategeries, I'm wearing some pearls today.  And pattern mixing!  But I'm definitely feeling the rut.

  5. Yes, the steamy weather definitely makes for a rut! I love your dress with the cardi belted over it.

  6. I don't belt my cardigans because.... I don't actually know why. It looks lovely on you, so now I must try it! and I agree-- though sunsets are lovely, the lighting is crappity crap crap. :( But you're still lovely!

  7. That's pretty funny, I usually deliberately wait around for sunset to take photos.
But it's important to stand where the sun is behind you, and over expose!

  8. Love the belted cardi! I usually take photos on my lunch break when the sun is the brightest and they are all blown out...

  9. I love the purple - beautiful.  And that belt is great - just the right width.  All of mine are two narrow or two wide.  I have the hardest time finding ones that width.  Perhaps I'll wander over to Target and see what I can see (okay, who am I fooling, I was totally going to go there anyway, belt or not).

  10. Target has a surprisingly great belt selection! That's where most of mine come from :)

  11. I still haven't figured out things like exposure on my camera. I can take great pictures with it... except when it comes to self-portraits!

  12. How about a brooch to make you feel more excited?  That won't affect the heat factor.  My best light is always early morning, but that often doesn't stop me from trying other times of day.

  13. I like the purple shades on you.  Minnesota has been hot lately, and all I want to wear are t-shirts and skirts.

  14. What a surprise...I have that same target dress and a purple cardigan!  I wore it with silver flats last week.  I like the belt.  Will have to try that.

  15. I'll try again--Anne, I'm having the darndest time posting comments to your blog.  Did something change?  I've tried on every post for the last week...

  16. OK, great--that came up!  Maybe I just can't be the FIRST poster, as I tried yesterday (on this one) and today (on the next one) to be.  Now that I'm here, I'll just say that I envy your ability to attend O's birthday party--you've got a great outfit to wear.  And purple is definitely your color.

  17. Hi Charlotte! Sorry you're having trouble! It might be an issue with DISQUS, the comment system, though I installed that a few months ago. Nothing's changed as far as I know.
