The other day, Kristen at
Low Fat Dressing mentioned that she's seeing more blues this summer. I'd agree with that, although this dress is actually from last summer. So clearly I'm a little bit ahead of the trend here.

Jude's getting back into the swing of blogging |
I do want to thank you all for your comments on
Friday's post. I know I'm not the only one struggling with these issues, but it's still nice to have the support. Some days, like today, I'm totally fine with my weight and the way that I look, and others I'm just really frustrated by it. But I suppose that's normal, right? But while we're on the subject of things that are annoying me right now, let's talk hair. See how cute and neatly styled my hair looks in these pictures? That lasted for all of half an hour, just long enough for me to take pictures, pack up my work bag and walk to the train. After spending 15 minutes hustling to the train in some humidity, this is what it looks like.

Shh, I'm totally not taking my picture on the bus! |
I don't hate it, but I wish it would just stay put after I dry it in the morning rather than flipping out once it gets outside. I already coat it with anti-humidity spray - before and after styling - but it feels like there's not enough anti-humidity hair products in the world. I know some of the problem is that I'm just overdue for a haircut (I'm waiting until after my cousin's wedding next month, since I'm MOH and getting my hair all done up for it), but still, it's a bit annoying. Does anyone have any tried and true strategies for getting your hair to cooperate in heat and humidity?
I have three humidity coping mechanisms; braid, bun and hat.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know that's not helpful.
My sister is a religious straightner. She'll spend about two hours going over every strand and has success with this, but it's too much effort for me. I'd rather work around the wave.
I'm not sure how it would work on your longer hair, but I have a product called Night Rider by Kevin Murphy that has been responsible for my good hair days since I got my hair cut shorter. It's waxy and you put it on both before and after blow-drying to give some volume and chunk.
ReplyDeleteI embrace my waves in the summer just because it's not worth the hassle of flat ironing my hair just to have it get frizzy after I walk or bike in the heat and humidity. Come fall I will wear my hair straight much more frequently.
ReplyDeleteIf I had waves, I would :) But my hair is naturally mostly straight, frizzy and prone to flipping up at the ends, so it's not that cute on its own.
ReplyDeleteI'll look into it. I can't wait until I can cut my hair short again - this in-between stage is starting to drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, in the summer, I just don't care if my hair stays or doesn't. hahaha. Saying that, my hair doesn't frizz up too much when I put a serum or a straightening cream over it after it air dries a little. I find that the product weighs my hair down a bit so it kinda stays put. :)
ReplyDeletelovely pics! you look so sweet!

I missed Friday's post, but I tend to feel the same way as you sometimes. Weight issues can be tough, and even though i generally like myself I feel better when I feel healthy.
ReplyDeleteBlue looks great on you!
I lived in Nashville for awhile and while it was gorgeous, the humidity just killed me. I couldn't do anything with my hair while I was there and eventually I ended up just cutting it all off. I am not a patient lady. lol.
ReplyDeleteLove you in the blue, btw.
I'm with ya on the hair! My hair never behaves in the humidity. But that dress looks great on you!

I am sure it will not surprise you to know I have that dress too. Love the Tiffany blue of it! Now, if only it fit me this year...sigh.
ReplyDeleteI must be crazy because I don't see how your hair is a mess in the bus shot. Is the flip-outs at the ends? I think they're cute, and look like you intended them to be there.
I knew you did! I thought about duplicating your outfit from last summer with the pearls, but it wasn't working for me.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's the flip outs. Which is even worse in the back where it's layered. I don't really mind it, except that I spent time getting it to flip under instead.
Like Kristen, I think the bus photo is way cute. I'm on team "let the ends flip up." Then again, you see how my hair looks, flipped up, no matter what the weather or the occasion. I'm gonna see how long I can go without cutting it, as I dig being able to put it up in this August humidity.
ReplyDeleteYour blue dress is super cute, the colour is awesome on you. I think your humidity hair is super cute, but I understand the frustration of misbehaving hair :)
