After Work

08/03/11

This is what I had planned to wear to work today until Fella reminded me that we had plans right after work, so it'd be silly to commute in to the office only to leave at 2:30 or so.  This afternoon we're going to President Obama's birthday party/fundraiser. I debated sharing this since some in the media have given him slack for daring to celebrate his 50th birthday, and because I grew up with a lot of folks that have become very conservative, close-minded and judgmental.  But this is my co-blog, and I can be open about stuff like this. I don't talk about politics very much, but I'm a liberal.  My parents are democrats who raised me to be open-minded and to help others, and I have a degree in a social justice-oriented field, so it just makes sense.  Fella and I supported him in the 2008 election, and we attended his Election Night Rally in Grant Park to celebrate his victory.  I'm not 100% happy with what his administration has done so far, but I certainly don't overlook how much has been accomplished, especially given the state of affairs when he took office.  And I think, regardless of your political beliefs, he's still a person who has a birthday.  Just like the rest of us.

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box and talk about the real matter at hand here - clothes.  I think if I could wear a dress like this everyday, I would.  It's light, comfortable, isn't a neckline offender and even skims my knees (I've been having a hard time finding dresses that go down to knee-length this summer - is it just me?).  And it's so easy to put together and outfit with a great dress, I think I'm getting out of my rut.  A little.  I was a little bummed about not going to work since I had such a cute outfit lined up, but I'll be wearing this tonight.  Like Fella said, if it's good enough for work, isn't it good enough for the President?

  1. Looking awesome, and Democratic-blue (did you do that on purpose!)  You're right- this is basically an ideal dress and it looks so great with your coloring. Say hi to our high-powered friends for me.

  2. I see the term "neckline offender" has made it into the general parlance :)  Love your necklace and the great blue dress, and of course as a fellow Democrat living among conservatives I give you props!

  3. I love the neckline of the dress!  And I'm pretty sure you know that I'm what tea partiers would consider a commie pinko.
