Misschedule

Misschedule, originally uploaded by Cohabitating_Closet.

I thought today was part of a recruitment night at my school for a certain program. But I was wrong. I wasted a perfectly decent "authority" outfit on a rainy day. Massive professor misschedule. At least I am here for another reason: make up exams and a student meeting. Still, I would have preferred something more casual and fun. Here I am, still queen of the neutrals.
Readers, if you met me in this outfit, would you think, "I could entrust my intelligent child's higher education in her hands," or think, "What kind of sloppy lady wears a gigantic oatmeal colored cardigan, T shirt, and an skirt that is too big?" I am hoping for the former. I could have gone with the "interview suit" but I hate that Banana Republic monstrosity.

This outfit is mostly provided by my mother, who is always trying to get me dress like a nice young lady. I even wore these little bow pumps to my PhD graduation (a mistake. I kept sinking into the mud).

Cardigan: Rachel Rachel Roy (mom present), Macy's
Tshirt (tunic style): Dillards (from mom, again)
Skirt: H&M
Patterned tights: Uniqlo
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini (thrifted)

  1. I like the outfit, but personally, I think it looks a little more casual than authoritative. If you're worried about recruiting in this outfit, what could you do to spruce it up? (although personally, I think if anyone actually talked to you they'd know they could trust you!)

With your hand on your hip in the first picture, the outfit is begging to be belted. I know you don't do jewelry, but a long necklace would look really great with the neckline too.

Of course, I've been running errands in my gym clothes all afternoon, so maybe don't listen to me today :)

  2. For a recruiting afternoon here last year, I wore a black dress that is a little sedate though pretty in a Victorian kind of way (a million buttons and short puffed sleeves--I call it my chastity dress). I worried that it might be too severe so I added a fuschia scarf with white polka-dots tied in a bow at my neck. Lots of parentals chit-chatted with me but the students were predictably sullen. I consider the outfit a success, however, because the Dean recently asked me if I would attend the same event this year. Thankfully, I was away at a conference. Possibly wearing the same outfit.

  3. DM: I love the idea of a chastity dress. I think I will go Edwardian buttoned up for the recruitment night (when it is actually scheduled).
