We're Having a Heat Wave

06/08/11
I'm not exaggerating when I say it is HOT here. Yesterday it was 98, with a heat index over 100, and today is looking like it'll be just as hot. This is the hottest weather we've had here in Chicago since August of 2006, and it's only been this hot in June six times since 1870 (uh yeah, I'm a bit of a weather nerd). But, being Chicago, it's going to rain tonight and the temperature will drop 30 or so degrees, which will be a nice break. Unpacking is a pain when it's this hot!

I've actually been in the office everyday this week, which is probably the first time that's happened in a few years, since I typically work from home two days a week. I don't mind coming in, but having to get dressed and be presentable everyday is tricky! I don't know how normal people do this all the time :)

Skirt, tank & cardigan: Target (wow!)
Shoes: Born
Necklace: New York & Company

Good luck with the heat.  I have guilt a bout my energy footprint in the summer--this is the deep south and I can go without heat all winter, but I really use that central air.  (Note that I may only be able to go without heat because I am from the north and do not mind having it be 55 in doors.  Or rather, I mind, but...)

I think you look lovely in the picture, but I had a year when I could work in yoga pants, so I have no thoughts on "how to do it...."

  2. Ah well, just enjoy it while you can - before you know it you will be cursing the snow again. And i suppose the fringe benefit of going into the office is having a/c cranked up to the max (which seems to be pretty standard in all offices)

  3. No kidding!  Though I'm not a fan of extremes. I took a picture of our indoor thermostat reading 94 yesterday (before we put the a/c in) and remembered when my apartment was 55 because of a power outage in the winter.  Is constant 70 degree weather too much to ask? :)

  4. Ah, central air - that'd be so nice!  I'd use a lot less a/c if not for Jude. I'd be fine to just turn it on while I'm home, but the thought of leaving him home alone with no air in 90 degree weather... so yeah, I have a pretty big footprint (and electricity bill) in the summer too.

  6. Heh, yeah I thought about that, what with visiting California right after making an offer :)

  7. Girl, we are getting your heat wave.  How do you look so polished and unsoggy despite the heat.  Hope you're doing better than. I love your new photo location.  I'm also looking forward to the weekend relief!

  8. I was totally eyeing that cardigan at Target the other day, which reminds me that we are twinsies and we have to do our twinsies week sometime.  You look very crisp in heat.

  9. Well for starters, I ditched the cardi after I finished my pictures, only to be worn at the office.  And I started using an anti-humidity hairspray this summer, and it actually seems to be helping!  Kind of.

  10. Ah, this is a slightly different cardigan - I bought it 2 years ago, though I know they have another dot one (because I know their entire inventory).  We should do twins week soon!  Perhaps once dress month ends?

  11. GAH! why why WHY is is so hot? I've only live in IL for 4 years, but I just can never get used to the summers. It's cold, then hot, then ridiculously scary because of the thunderstorms. I'm giving up.

  12. Aww, but our summer thunderstorms are so cool!  But you know what they say, if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes :)

  13. I love this look.  The tank is a beautiful color and looks fabu with the printed cardi.

After our gorgeous weekend, we're back to hovering around the mid-60s which is definitely preferable to 100 degrees.  I love the sun, but that's just too hot.
