Summer Skirt

03/30/2011

I can't wait any longer for warm weather to get here, so although it's still cold out, I'm sporting a warm weather skirt today. Influenced by a lifetime of hearing the old rules about not wearing white until after Memorial Day, I feel a little rebellious for wearing a white skirt on a cold March day.  But it seems okay since I've added tights and a black sweater.  And it's cute, so who cares about old rules that don't really need to be followed.  And look!  The skirt has pockets!

If you wondered after Monday's post, Fella and I had some pretty tasty Ethiopian food the other night.  We started with a sampler of different types of Sambussa (tuna, beef, lentils and spinach), and then feasted on a messob sampler, which included turmeric seasoned beef, stir-fry chicken, lamb, tilapia, greens, beets, cabbage and carrots and sweet peas.  Yum! Our goal with these friends is to try a different cuisine each month.  We started last month with Colombian.  Any suggestions for April?

Last, I've added a few more items that I'm giving away to the Anne's Closet page. I do have more clothes, but for now I've just added accessories and a few pairs of shoes.

Cardigan: Target (remixed tons of times)
Tank: Gap Outlet (remixed)
Skirt: The Limited
Necklace: New York & Company
Tights: Target
Shoes: Naturalizer, via PiperLime (also remixed a lot)

    I love that skirt!

I had ethopian food for the first time in amsterdam three days ago - I LOVED it! so veggie friendly and those sourdough pancakes - yum! No ethopian restaurants in Edinburgh, sadly!

  2. That's a very fun skirt. I have a white skirt/blue top/black tights outfit that I want to wear sometime soon but today it's pouring buckets.

I think next time you should try Korean food. And I'll be jealous from over here.

  3. Well technically I've already tried Korean food. But I don't know if our friends have, and I suppose if we went to a different restaurant (than the Korean restaurant at the end of our block), that would still be something new. I do want to try Korean BBQ, so that'd be different.

And we should really start coordinating our matching outfits better!

  4. The pancakes were great, but I couldn't get over the texture! I kept wondering how on earth they got them to be so spongy? Hmm.

  5. Super cute skirt! It is knitted? I am always on the lookout for a cute knitted skirt, especially ones with pockets. And you totally styled it cold weather appropriately!
As for food, I recommend south Indian (very different than what most folks think of as Indian food) which is available on Devon, or Caribbean/Jamaican food.

  6. I still think we should do the week of matching sometime. Also, I am a slacker and did not send your package yet. Soon.

  7. Pick a week! Seriously, let's do it.

And don't worry about not mailing anything - I'm so awful with that myself.

  8. Ooh, Caribbean food would be fun! And I'll look into South Indian food. I've never had any sort of Indian food, so that would be interesting.

I think the skirt is a cotton poly blend. It feels like cotton, but has a little stretch to it. And it's got a silky sort of lining.

  9. That's a great skirt and I love it with the pretty blue. You look great! Your dinner sounds delish. Yum! Korean BBQ is awesome, and I really like Vietnamese food - Pho in particular!

  10. Oh yum... Do Cuban! I have yet to try Ethiopian food, but it sounds delish. I do love lentils! I should try that out with my friends! It'll get me and my husband out of the house :) On to clothing business, I absolutely love that skirt! The stripes are adorable and the cut is really great!

  11. Cuban is a great suggestion, but it's definitely not new to me, Fella or our friends. There's an amazing Cuban place about half a mile from my apartment that we go to pretty regularly.

  12. Vietnamese! I haven't tried that yet, so I'll try to work that in.

  13. i actually love white during the 'off' seasons. i think it stands out more. and it looks so pretty with the black and bright blue.

i have no idea about foods to try next- all i eat is thai and italian, which is pretty standard. maybe indian? i do love ethiopian, but have yet to find a good place in nyc.

  14. This is a beautiful look! The skirt has so many possibilities.

  15. What about a variation of Italian? You've reminded me that there's a Neopolitan pizza place in the neighborhood that I have still yet to try.

  16. That skirt is fantastic!

Italian is always a win in my book. What about Lebanese food or Greek? Spanish tapas?

  17. This might be my favorite outfit of yours ever. I love the skirt -- and I think I like it better with the dark tights and cardigan that if it was more spring-y.

Also, that delicious sounding Ethiopian food is making me hungry!

  18. Oh, I love Ethiopian food. For April, maybe Peruvian? It's delicious too.

I think this outfit looks fabulous - I love white skirts with dark tights.

  19. You look great in blue! I've never had Ethiopian food before.

  20. I think we are all ready for summer and busting out the warm weather apparel! I think white before memorial day is a-okay!

  22. Oooh Peruvian? That definitely sounds different! I'll check into it.

  23. As long as the white doesn't match the ground (and we do have snow in the forecast this weekend), I think it works :)

  24. Great, now how will I ever top this outfit? And I admit that the skirt looks a LOT better with black tights than my blindingly white legs. That's the only plus for our chilly spring weather.

  25. Great suggestions! I love pretty much all Mediterranean food, so Lebanese would definitely be good.

  26. I'm glad you wore a summer skirt. I wore my sparkly winter-looking GAP skirt yesterday because I realize the weather might change soon and I won't be able to layer with a sweater and tights (and that skirt is too short for bare legs!)

But it's staying above the 40s in mid-day, which means it's biking weather, which means that we can pull out our whites. These urban rules replace the old Memorial/Labor Day whites rules.

    (And yes, I am nearby).

  27. Here's hoping the weather might actually change soon. I hear we're due for snow tomorrow, which would be a pretty awful April Fool's joke.
