More Purple & Orange

03/11/11

Happy Friday!  I'm far more excited about this scarf than I am the outfit as a whole.  How could I not be?  It's full of rich colors, and it's kind of shiny.  And the rest of the outfit, totally built around the scarf, still fits in my Friday formula of jeans, tee/tank and cardigan.

I need to apologize for being so absent in Style Nation this week.  Not only is all of my crazy busy work stuff wrapping up, but yesterday I suffered a totally stupid injury to my back, so after sitting at a computer all day, I just don't have it in me to spend much time on the computer after work.  I was getting ready to go to the gym before work, and I sneezed while putting on my tennis shoes.  And, I'm not kidding, the sneeze threw my back out.  I didn't even know such a thing was possible, but it was seriously painful.  Like, I could barely move for a good hour afterward.  From a sneeze.  I've been hanging out on the couch with a heating pad for the most part, and am hoping this will get better by the weekend.  When I e-mailed my boss about it, he joked that between throwing my back out and getting ready to buy a home, these are clear signs that I'm getting older.  Oh well, at least I still look good.

  2. Your outfit is wonderful. I am really sorry about your back. Mine is out all the time now that I'm 65. You need to watch that getting older stuff. It sneaks up on you.

  3. Yum! That scarf is gorgeous!

But SO sorry to hear about your back. Isn't it amazing how easily those muscles get pulled. Bah!

  4. Julia: Thanks! The scarf usually gets paired with pink, but I like it much better with one of the less dominant colors in the pattern, like purple.

Judy: I don't even think it's age in my case - I've had a chronically bad back since I was 14! But this is my first sneeze-related injury.

Sal: Thanks! I forgot that you hurt your back last year. I'll have to go back to your posts about sensible footwear until this gets better...

  7. I love that scarf.

I once threw my back out (seriously, Valium and physical therapy requiring bad) by reaching for a piece of paper that was far away on my desk, so I totally know where you're at.

  9. LHdM: Thank you!

Lyddie: Honestly, it wasn't any worse than any other sneeze - and with allergy season on its way, I've had a lot lately!

Cynthia: Wow, that's rough. I feel like injuries as a result of nothing could have its' own dedicated post. I've also hurt my shoulder while pushing the button that opens the gas tank on Fella's car.

    Laura: Thank you!

  10. Oh no! I am sorry about your back. And the stress. It will all get better soon.
You're looking lovely in that beautiful scarf. I covet it. And then I got bummed than it's from a store only the Ohio/Indiana area. Bummer!

  11. Ack! That sucks about your back - the back is a sensitive thing, me thinks! I love your scarf though!

  12. Rad: You'll probably be even more bummed to know that the scarf only cost $10! They were having a BOGO sale when I was visiting a couple of years ago, so my mom has the matching scarf, but in cooler colors. I go back enough though, I'll check in for similar scarves :)

Allison: It's sensitive, yet finicky. I can lift heavy things or stress it in other ways and it doesn't hurt like this at all.

  13. Oh, Anne, I'm so sorry to hear about your back. That's just terrible!

But, your scarf is absolutely gorgeous and is perfect against the backdrop of your simple outfit. I love this!

  14. I think throwing out the back with a small jolt is more common that you'd think, Anne. Most times when I hear about this happening, it's always from tiny things--never falling down stairs or being tackled by fans.

BUT your scarf is lovely, and I'll bet it makes you feel better. It's amazing to me how much a scarf can dress up an otherwise pretty casual outfit. Jeans and a tee-shirt suddenly look pulled together when you add a scarf!

I hope you feel better soon.

  15. You look lovely, Anne! I love that scarf.

I hope your back gets better soon - get it strong so that those sneezes don't undo you again!

  17. You DO look good! I get these strange catches too. Couldn't even finish a thrifting trip today because of a cramp in my left side. Here's to hoping you feel better soon.

  18. Oh, I am coveting that scarf big-time!
Yikes on the bad back. There is nothing worse. Get yourself into the doctor pronto if it doesn't improve.

  19. Hope your back is feeling better! I was in Target and their wine cubes were on sale. Just saying. Nothing like delicious wine to make things feel better.

LOVE that scarf. Such a great combination of colors!

  20. Gracey: Thank you!

Charlotte: I've definitely learned how common that is! The image of me getting hurt by being tackled by fans is cracking me up.

Sheila: I'm getting back to the gym today to do just that!

    GretchTM: Thank you!

Terri: I hope you're feeling better too!

Kristen: Thankfully it's feeling better, so I can save the trip to the doctor.

E-Jo: I'm way ahead of you - I picked up a sale wine cube at Target last night! And a new, striped dress (very E-Jo), so both are making me feel better :)
