In what is probably the biggest April Fool's joke this year, it was a record breaking 82 degrees today in Chicago! Lucky for me, I worked from home today, so I actually got to enjoy our unusually nice weather. I took a couple long walks, and we took our dog to the beach tonight so he could enjoy the weather too. But the real point of this post is that I'm so excited to be wearing summer clothes again! I know, great weather like this is completely fleeting, especially here in the Midwest. But I'm enjoying our few days of June-like weather before the temperature cools off again.
This is a pretty simple outfit, but it's a couple steps up from my typical summer casual. Usually it'd look something like this, except no scarf, and replace the adorable flats with a pair of flip-flops. Speaking of the adorable flats, let's take a closer look.
Being a partly-Irish gal with pink, freckly skin, I've never been able to successfully pull off yellow tops. It's a shame, because there's a lot of cute stuff out there in yellow that I'd love to wear. Fortunately, yellow accessories aren't totally off limits, so when I spotted these shoes on shoes.com, I had to have them for spring. They were a little more pricey than what I'd normally pay for flats, but they're Dr. Scholl's so I know they'll be comfy (which they are!), and I did at least find a 10% off coupon.
Although I've never been a stranger to color, I don't often mix two bright colors together, instead preferring to pair one bold color with all neutrals. So this is big for me. I tied the whole thing together with a pink and yellow scarf, so that's something. I don't know if this exact pink works with yellow, but how does the idea of it all look?

Really, 80s? That's so crazy. I hope it is that nice when I come and visit. Pink and yellow is unexpected but it looks great together.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Dr. Scholls is so frickin' cute. Just adorable.
Hopefully! Honestly, I'll just be happy if it doesn't snow again :) Spring is such a crapshoot here. I'm going to play around with the yellow to see what it may look better with. Perhaps green?
ReplyDeleteI really like yellow and purple too. Yellow and grey is kind of "grown up" looking as well. Can't wait to see you again in 3 weeks!
ReplyDeleteGood call on yellow and grey - I have some casual, gray twill pants that would be perfect for these shoes. The problem with purple is that I don't own any pure purple - it's all purplish-pinks. I'll work on that. I wore them with a teal top to work yesterday and they went together very well. One of my co-workers even commented on the color combination!
ReplyDeleteWe're looking forward to your visit too! I hope you'll have a little time for shopping. There's 2 new thrift shops in the neighborhood that we should visit :)
