Yellow, on the Side

Everybody, Everywearing yellow!
I'm sure I've mentioned before how envious I am of people who can wear yellow and wear it well.  It just doesn't work with my coloring, and I've accepted that.  But I'm still jumping on board with this round of Everybody, Everywhere and sporting the only yellow thing I own - my bag!

It's still pretty warm here, but we had a pretty nasty rain storm yesterday that took away a lot of the humidity. It's at about 50% now, which is a serious improvement over yesterday.  Like, I'm not drenched just by walking outside.  Said storm yesterday resulted in all kinds of power outages and trees/branches all over the streets in the Chicagoland area.  It's weird how many of our storms this summer have been severe.  The storm hit right as I was on the train on my way to work, so we stopped and sat on the tracks for about an hour.  Ugh.  A lot of the traffic lights were still out when I left work yesterday afternoon, which caused problems for the bus that I take to the train station.  So all in all, I spent about 5 hours commuting to and from my office, which is 25 miles away.  It totally sucked.  Like, to the point that I was nearly in tears while sitting in traffic on the bus last night.  The day would've been a total loss if it hadn't been for this new addition to our household last night:

Kameko!
This is Jude's new foster sister, Kameko!  3 years ago we adopted Jude from a wonderful 100% volunteer rescue group, New Leash on Life.  I keep up with them on their Facebook page, and am always perusing their available dogs.  I've wanted a second dog for a little while, and since we've moved, we actually have the space for 2 dogs.  I spotted Kameko on their website and read her story and thought she and Jude would be a pretty good match.  She's 6 years old and, like Jude, a rottweiler mix.  She had a good home, but the guy who adopted her had to move overseas and couldn't take her with.  She's been in day care for 3 weeks since he left, and Fella and I felt bad that she didn't have a home to stay in.  We took Jude to meet her on Saturday, and they got along pretty well, so we offered to provide a foster home for her.  We're seeing how things work out, but it's possible that we'll adopt her.  I'd love to, but it depends on how Jude adjusts to all of this.  They seem to like each other (here they are together), but it's a big change for Jude.  Does anyone with multiple pets have any tips on integrating a new pet to the house?

  1. I never thought I could wear yellow, either, but I'm starting to think it's all about finding that one magical shade that doesn't make you look like you have the consumption. Perhaps you just haven't found your yellow yet? Either way, can't go wrong with smashing accessories!

Good luck with Kameko (which, funnily enough, was the name of a former goldfish of mine). She's beautiful and lucky that she may have found a second good home.

  2. As a multiple cat owner, my tip is that if they have already kind of settled down and seem to like each other, you're golden.  Also, that is a lot of smilin' dog.

Also also, I only have one yellow item in my wardrobe and I'm wearing it today.  TWINS.

  3. I'm betting we have a lot of company today in sporting our one and only yellow item :)

  4. Oh noes! That's super craazy that you had to sit there and wait for the storm to stop! When I know there's a super storm coming, I basically just shut off and call it a day. haha.

  5. Me too, but it was sunny when I left the house so I thought it'd hold off until I got to work!  But now I know to never, ever go to the office if there's even a slight chance of rain.

  6. Sorry about the 5 hour commute, I would have been in tears too.  That's just frustrating.  I hope the yellow bag cheers you up though - I think it's fab and I love it as a pop of color with this outfit.

You guys are just wonderful to provide a foster home for Kameko.  I do hope she and Jude get along okay; it'd be nice if she could be adopted by someone like you.

  8. Dear Anne, good for you.  I think dogs are happier when they have a canine friend to be with.  The trick with bringing a new one into the house seems to be to pay very little attention to her, and lavish your attention on Jude.  Jude will regard K. as "his" dog, and they'll make their relationship.  In a couple of weeks, K. will notice you and then you can forge a bond.  This is what I did with Erland and Nora, who are inseparable.  I can't remember where I read this as a way of handling the introduction, but it certainly worked with these two.  Good luck!

  9. Wow, really?  That's an interesting approach.  The rescue group did tell us to make sure that we treat Jude as the dominant dog, and reinforce their roles as dominant and submissive, so that's kind of along the same lines.  I've read so many different articles about this, but hearing people's experiences is helpful.

  10. That is awesome that you are fostering her!  I fostered cats for quite a while, but I have only ever had one dog at a time so I don't have many tips.

Sorry you got drenched. And welcome Kameko! Like I said on your other blog, you are good people.

  15. I hope things work out with kameko, it can be hard for the only dog to suddenly have to share, but I think pets are probably happier at the end of the day if they've got a furry companion to fill the time when their people arent around.
