Busy Wednesday

I'm just now getting around to posting my outfit from yesterday because it was a crazy busy day.  A busy day for me is actually a good thing (definitely better than the days that I can just sit in my cubicle twiddling my thumbs, waiting for work to come my way), no matter how tiring it might be.  I started the day with a 6am work-out, which I'm trying to do every Wednesday now.  Then my day at the office was filled with conference calls, an organization-wide Town Hall meeting (our Town Halls are sadly not nearly as angry or amusing as some town halls), endearing myself to my co-workers with baked goods and tackling a fun personal project of transferring my car's title to a relative out of state.

But on a fashion note - yesterday was one of those days where I just felt like I had nothing to wear.  I had just done laundry on Tuesday night, and since I didn't get a chance to put anything away, I didn't have everything just waiting in my closet for me to go through, so nothing was jumping out at me.  I really need to consider making a trusty outfit list.  I often pick my clothes out the night before, but that didn't happen either.  My typical fall-back option is a black dress, but I wasn't feeling it, so I threw this together.

Do you ever have days where you feel like you have nothing to wear?  What do you do?  Do you have fall-back outfits in place just for such a day?

Cardigan, bracelet & shoes: Loft

Edited to add: shoe close-up, per A-Dubs' request

  1. I have been having those days every day this week. I think something's going to work out and I wake up planning to wear it, and then I put it on and look at the photo and end up scrambling around for a last-minute fix. I've also been hurting myself for no good reason (last night I gave myself a mysterious zumba injury) and have been nearly killed by people coming to a dead stop in the middle of my lane of traffic for no apparent reason or lane-changing in their SUV without signaling and nearly running me off the road. Everything is slightly inauspicious this week.

I'm glad you're going to be sticking with us now that Rad is back, and I would totally wear that outfit you have on today.

  2. I've been having a lot of those days lately. My fallback outfits are usually a short dress and tights, which gets pretty boring after a while.

  3. I really like today's outfit. But then, I am sick and have been wearing sweats and a tank top and refusing to leave my house. So there you go. (Refusing to leave my house would be more restful if the laptop would leave. Today is syllabus day....)

  4. The nice thing about the 6 items challenge is that I don't have much choice. But other days, I usually go dress, leggings, boots, and jacket. Or jacket, tunic, and skinny jeans. I think I need necklaces to make it work better.
I dig the cardigan and the necklace here. What color is the cardigan- slate?

  5. Cynthia: Mysterious Zumba injury? Please provide more information. Sorry about all the traffic woes though! I'm so thankful I only have to drive to work once a week (though I won't even bore you with all the traffic mishaps I had on my way home last night).

Rebecca: Yep, just like my fall-back black dress. I can only wear a black dress so often!

AFtK: I hope you feel better and can get some rest! I'm sporting sweats and a tank top today in solidarity. Well, really because that's what I wear when I work from home.

Rad: That's exactly what I miss about having school uniforms - nothing to think about in the morning! Both of your outfit combos always look fab, so I'd love to fall back on something like that. The cardigan is a dark gray - I'd call it charcoal maybe. Oddly enough, I've been having all kinds of problems styling it. Which is ridiculous, since it's a neutral.

  6. I like this ensemble. I like it a lot, in part because it seems so effortless, and in part because of the shoes. What are the chances we can get a close-up of those sweet things?

Also, on the cardigan styling: I wonder if it has to do with the short sleeves? It has taken me exactly two years to figure out what do with my own short-sleeve cardigan. And it still doesn't get a lot of use, even though it is also a neutral.

I do not have fall-back outfits. But I should. Generally, however, I fall back on pants when the dress or skirt I set out the night before feels like too much work. Usually work = tights.

  7. A-Dubs: You got it! I don't know if it's the sleeves so much for me as it is the color (although I do have a brown short sleeved cardigan that's gathering dust in the back of my closet). A lot of my short sleeved/sleeveless tops feel like they're too dark to put under charcoal. At least with black bottoms. Maybe if I paired it with jeans? Hmm. What color is yours?

  9. Yay Anne, I'm so glad you are posting even though Rad is back. Does that mean you will be staying FOREVER?
The outfit is terrific even if it is a throw on outfit. My go to is also a black dress with some sort of leather involved. No chance of that happening right now due to the heat.

  10. Those shoes are adorable -- close up definitely needed! I'm also a big fan of getting outfit details sorted out the night before, mornings when I have a time constraint don't usually produce the best looks.

If I get really stuck, I have a few dresses that I can throw on and feel good about...

and i'm with you on being busy over bored, the day is long enough as it is, having something to do at least gets you through it!

  11. Those Shoes! I like the colors in this outfit and to answer your question- i do have fall back outfits - I bought a lot of banana republic clothes after graduation for job interviews and internships such. I rarely wear them as button up shirts and suit skirts are rather bland, but they are quick and easy and since I rarely wear them they're usually clean.

Also, it's awesome that you're doing 6 am workouts. I need to try that out.

  12. I totally feel you! This was a week full of crazy days for me as well, which is why I'm trying to have a very chill Friday. Add to that the stress of really not liking a single pair of my 3 pairs of maternity pants. I want to give them all away; they are all too short, and that's a pet peeve. Grrr. So I'm stuck wearing the same three skirts and couple of dresses until I get new pants. Super grr!

We'll make it through. Tomorrow is the weekend!
