Casual Thursday

Today is thankfully my last day in the office for the week!  Although I generally dislike a number of things about the corporate world, every now and then we get a few perks.  Today they're feeding my team a tasty lunch of pizza from Chicago's own Lou Malnati's (sorry - I can't help but get excited about food, especially if it's free), and after that we get to spend the afternoon having a Wii bowling tournament on ridiculously large projection screens in a conference room.  Seriously.  I'm getting paid to eat and play Wii today.  It's kind of awesome.

It may be too soon to tell, but I wear a lot of skirts and dresses, especially for work.  I'm more comfortable in skirts/dresses than jeans any day, and I think they're usually more flattering too.  Because I was hired for my job in a summer, I think I had a pants-free streak of a few months going when I started working there.  Finally, one of my co-workers very politely asked if I had some kind of religious opposition to pants, which still cracks me up several years later.  In any event, it's pretty rare for me to do this in 80 degree weather, but since it's a fun day, I decided to go casual with jeans.
How do you go casual for work? Do you prefer skirts and dresses to pants too?  Have any of your co-workers ever mistaken you for a well-dressed Menonite? (seriously, I'm not making that up)

Top: H&M
Cami: NY & Company
Jeans: Gap (Long & Lean)
Shoes: Privo
Necklace: Embellish

Jude finally noticed me taking pictures, and decided to join in the fun.

  1. Hey, Anne! You are looking long and lean and ready to dominate the Wii in those jeans. I love that your coworker asked this question (I had a specific request for jeans from a coworker too!) I thought that dresses and skirts were more common these days but I forget how popular jeans are too.

  2. Thanks Rad! That's definitely the jeans' doing. I always thought they were called Long & Lean because they're FOR long and lean people and thus never even tried a pair on, but a very helpful salesman finally told me that they're designed to make you LOOK long & lean.

My co-worker and I still joke about that comment, because I still don't wear pants very often. Since our dress code went from "business casual" to "casual," jeans are definitely the norm around here.

  3. Haha. Youlookfab just had a poll about "your favorite 3 pairs of jeans" and my answer was:

    1. Gap Long and Lean
    2. Gap Long and Lean
    3. Gap Long and Lean

They are totally awesome. If Gap stops making them or replaces them with "skinnies" I will cry.

  4. Amen to that, lady! I've never had a pair of jeans fit me better. Gap should probably be paying us for all the free testimonials.

  5. The new Gap jeans are the BEST for fit!

No one has ever mistaken me for religious in the least. Mostly due to all the tattoos.

  6. Even when I wore nothing but ankle-length skirts for about three years, no one thought it was for religious reasons. And I live in the heart of Mennonite/Amish country. So this has me wondering....

  7. Okay, I have been assuming that Long & Lean was the jeans' intended body type. Now I must go to Gap.

  8. Pizza and Wii, that's my type of job! Did you get high score?

  9. Emily: So maybe I should get some ink too so my co-workers won't get the wrong idea?

Charlotte: Now that you mention it, I rocked long skirts all the time when I lived in Ohio, and no one thought anything of it.

Kelly: Definitely check them out! I can't believe how much time I wasted on ill-fitting jeans.

SU: I did alright, and had a ton of fun. It's not bad for a day's work :)

  10. I am going to the Gap to try out these jeans because you are looking fine. And I have a credit note from my recent Norma Rae moment. Except I wasn't fighting for workers' rights I was fighting for shoppers' rights. So, maybe not really Norma Rae. But Norma Rae wore jeans, right? I'm going to try on these jeans and report back.

  11. Ooo, I just bought 2 pairs of long and leans. In fact, at the moment, if you buy 1 pair of Gap jeans, the second pair is $20. Everyone should know this!

(I have been getting my jeans at thrift stores and I am beyond excited to be back in Long and Leans.)

  12. D-Med: Norma Rae did wear jeans! Actually, she looks pretty long and lean in the movie poster. Definitely try them out! And don't go up several sizes this time - they actually run a touch big (which is exactly the kind of ego boost I need when bothering with jeans). I'll be eagerly awaiting your report :)

AFtK: Wow, that's a good deal! I keep getting 20% off coupons from them in the mail, and today's Groupon was a $50 Gap gift card for $25. They're practically giving good looking jeans away!

  13. Those jeans look great on you. I need to check out the Gap jeans.

My office is pretty casual in general, so when I want to be super casual I wear jeans.

  14. Seriously? You got to wear those BA jeans to play Wii and eat pizza? And that was work yesterday?

Quick - switch lives with me. (Except I'm keeping both my dog and yours. That big blue harness is awesome on his already awesome fuzzy self.)

  15. Report on Long and Lean: on me, short and stumpy. I keep trying to wear Gap jeans and they keep not fitting me. I am very short-waisted so anything with a mid-rise looks like a mom jean on me because it reaches past my natural waist. I had high hopes, and now they are dashed on the rocks, the rocks of pantslessness.

But they look fabulous on you.

  16. D-Med, I am sorry--that is so sad. If it makes you feel better, I bought 2 pairs of ankle length jeans, you know, the short ones. Wore a pair with 3 inch heels today and the Brewer's Wife looked at me and announced that they needed hemming.

  17. It's funny how no one would think you were weird if you never wore a dress or a skirt, but not wear pants? How completely absurd!

I typically wear dresses and skirts to the office, but not exclusively. My co-workers often make fun of me because I'm the only one ever in heels and they can hear me clicking down the hall.

Your wii pizza party sounds super fun. I wish we did awesome things like that in my office!!

    Chic on the Cheap

  18. Rebecca: Thanks! I'm a fan of Gap jeans, but I wish I could rock those skinnies you had last week.

A-Dubs: Well, there isn't another Wii day until next August (although we do have an Oktoberfest picnic scheduled for next month), but sure I'd love to switch! Although my dog's pretty clingy so I don't know if he'd be cool with that.

D-Med: Sorry about your dashed hopes :( If it makes you feel better, it took years and years for me to finally find a decent looking pair of jeans. I can't wear lower rises, so I have the opposite problem.

Lyddie: Good point! There's a lot of ladies in my office who always wear pants, and no one thinks anything of it. I'm usually the only one in heels too, so I can relate :)
