Only 6 days left

Only 6 days left, originally uploaded by Cohabitating_Closet.

I've only got 6 days left (2 actual teaching days) in the semester. I am looking forward to greater flexibility with my time and an opportunity to figure out how to rework my classes. Why is it that I have all the brilliant ideas during the semester, after the syllabus is finished, but never during the breaks? Well, I'm learning every year and I can say that I've burned enough pancakes on one class that I have it down pretty well (Blokey says that classes are like pancakes, you gotta burn a few 'til the turn out right. I don't know why I'm talking in Forrest Gump analogies).
Today, the second day of the Academichic Dress Your Best challenge, I'm highlighting my cheekbones, which make me look like my lovely mum. But really, I am celebrating those parts of my face that I've felt insecure about in the past, too. While my face is no classical study in symmetry, I've learned to like it's lopsided and funny bits too (like my large ears, which will keep getting bigger, and still won't accept earrings). I shied away from make up since I entered grad school (because academic ladies are generally make up free) but I think I can try to have some more fun with it once in a while. (Not this semester though, my hilarious students will be all "Yo, puh-fessah, why you look awll nice today?")

(I am wearing make up here- lip color and eyebrow shadow. I'm trying to channel my inner Jennifer Connolly. Who cares about her figure, I want her eyebrows)

Hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday.

I'm glad to be able to wear these lined boots one last time (for A.W.)

Cardigan: Billabong
Dress: Land's End (thrifted)
Belt: thrifted
Leggings: Target
Boots: Born via Ebay

  1. You always look good, but you look really great with that small amount of make-up! I'm so jealous that all you need is lip color and shadow to look that good.

I'm glad there's a light at the end of the tunnel for the semester :)

  3. I am jealous, I still have one month of work left until school gets out! I am easing into make-up as well, forever I wore NOTHING, then in college I would throw on mascara, only recently have I tried eyeliner or lipstick. I just don't want to be one of those people who wears full make-up every day and when you see them without it they look like an alien. Anyway, I love your boots and the belt looks great with them! Grey, black, and brown is such a chic combo. That's great you can pinpoint parts of you that look like your mom, I don't think I look much like either of my parents!

  4. This is SUCH a great look for you! And you're right, you do have great cheekbones.

I'm a make up kind of girl, since it would be a huge no-no to show up to auditions without a bit. I'm jealous that so little make up makes you look so good!

  5. You have a beautiful face, and a very pretty smile. I wear some makeup pretty much every day. It helps me to look like a more rested version of myself.

  6. Ha! I love the ventriloquizing of the students.

And I concur with everyone here--soooo pretty! I also do not wear make-up. I used to wear mascara but somehow I've gotten out of the habit of even that. I will say that when I do wear mascara and a little blush, I am amazed at the difference it makes (bright-eyed! warm!) though I still forget most mornings to leave the house with it. And I notice that when I am at more formal events where I do make an effort with the face-glamour, my colleagues sometimes do a nearly imperceptible double-take when they see me.

  7. Sweet ensemble and totally rad cheekbonage. And thanks for the boot shots - they're warming my generally-frigid heart.

I, too, am in the pancake-burning process (I'm stealing that analogy) and usually can't wait to finish term so I can re-imagine how to begin the next one. This year, for the first time, I had a recipe succeed in ways that left me totally satisfied. But I also burnt one beyond recognition and will be trying an entirely new cookbook next time 'round. (probably I've exhausted the pancake thing now.) I both love and hate that this will perhaps be a career-long process.

And finally, I'm the alien. I don't leave the house without make-up. Ever. And I'm REALLY envious of those who don't wear it.
