Dressing Around a Sunburn

04/11/11

Here's what I wore to work yesterday.  I had a really hard time figuring out what to wear that would cover all of my sunburn, because I got burnt while wearing a v-neck, and a majority of my tops and dresses have some sort of v-neck to them.  I decided a scarf would be the way to go, but of course I had to find a scarf that wouldn't be too itchy.  I should probably just wear sunscreen at all times to prevent this.  If you look, you can see the burn peeking out.  I've been blasting it with Solarcaine to make it a little less red and obnoxious, which actually seems to be working.

I've never  been a fan of leggings and flats underneath a dress on me before, but I couldn't stand to wear tights again after our 80 degree day on Sunday.  It cooled down to 60 and windy, so I wasn't feeling bare legs either.  Transitional weather is so tricky sometimes.

Fella, oblivious to the camera and picture-taking going on

I mentioned the other day that I usually try to take my outfit pictures ahead of time.  Mornings are just too busy and crowded around here.  Fella didn't realize I was taking pictures and hopped into the shot to write a note to our dog walker.

"Hey Fella, you're in the shot"

And this is right as I'm telling Fella he's in the shot.  Oh well.  Have a nice Tuesday, everyone!

  1. Cute! I love the last photo, as it's so natural. I hope your sunburn feels better soon. I once got a terrible sunburn on a 85-degree April day when I was wearing a v-neck dress ... and a chunky necklace. It was awful; my chest was red and I had this ring of white in the middle. The worst of it all? The weather got cool again, so I couldn't even it out, and my religious wedding occurred a couple of months later. Fortunately, by the time I had to be seen in a wedding dress, the tan had evened out a bit, but you can still see the traces in the photo. Awesome!

  2. Oh I've definitely been there! In fact, this burn has a huge white spot because I was wearing a big pendant (you can see it in the bottom picture of me and Fella that I posted yesterday). It looks pretty ridiculous. I think I'd have to totally avoid the sun for a while if I were getting married, because the odds of me having a stupid burn for that are pretty high.

  3. I hate sunburns, and I burn pretty easily if I don't wear sunscreen. I think that you did a great job of covering up the burn. The scarf was a good idea.

  4. Now see, this? Advice the internet can use. How to dress when you accidentally scorched yourself. Also: I did not buy that cardigan, but I almost did. You and me are LIKE THIS (points at eye in a hat tip to A-Dubs).

  5. These pics are great! I love the appearances of Jude and Fella! You are totally rocking the leggings and flats here, and as somebody who burns really easily, I am familiar in sunburn convering dressing. I give this look a 10/10.

  6. You're so funny, Anne. That sunburn looks quite painful where it's peeking out, but you did a good job of covering it, and I really like the leggings and flats under the dress. You're making me want to try it.

  7. the one warm sunny day in forever and I got burnt too...but just my ankles...!
The scarf masks the burn very well...love the dress styled with the leggings and flats.

  8. Such a cute combination! I wanted to wear leggings and a dress today too but none of my summery dresses were teaching appropriate. I especially like the colors of this outfit.
Do I spy a mini sunburn on Fella too?

  10. hee hee. When my husband has time, he takes photos of me, so I only have to worry about the kitties getting in the picture. And, the scarf totally works!

  11. I don't burn very easily but am still pretty devoted to sunscreen. A burn is so damn uncomfortable! You did a great job of dressing around (over) it, plus you're totally rocking a look (leggings, flats, dress) that I too often find problematic. Well done (little roasting joke there!)

  12. Clearly, you are the sunburn expert -- covering it up masterfully here. I tend to not try to cover mine up -- partly because I have yet to find as good a solution as you have here and partly because I like garnering sympathy from anyone.

Love the print on the dress.

Man alive, I burn like nobodies business so I feel ya there. You did a great job of covering it...I normally just withstand the "had a good weekend huh?" comments. Love the look on fella's face :). Too cute!

  14. It's a shame too, I've gotten so much wear out of this particular cardigan. But my first tip to dressing scorchiness would be to not wear red. I've made that mistake before, and it's not pretty.

  15. Me too! Once I got sunburnt through a closed sunroof, yet another occasion where I just didn't consider the need for sunscreen.

  16. Normally I would too, but this looked especially bad with the giant white spot from the necklace I was wearing. It's just too embarrassing.

  17. I've got plenty of experience and expertise when it comes to sunburn. So much so that I think eventually people stop feeling sorry and just wonder why I don't always wear sunscreen.

  18. Uncomfortable and unsightly! And I would've guessed that you'd be rocking leggings now - some of my pregnant friends here swear by them!

  19. Fella tends to poke fun at the picture-taking, so I just rely on my camera's timer most of the time

  20. Just the ankles? Wow, how'd you do that? Amazingly my legs didn't burn at all, despite being exposed!

  21. I think you'll be seeing a lot of sunburn-hiding posts from me come summer.

  22. It actually looks worse than it feels since I keep spraying it with lidocaine :)

  23. Yep, Fella got a slight burn on his face, but it's mostly disappeared.

  24. It's so comfortable, I almost don't care what it looks like.

  25. Making notes to steal idea for this outfit, since I am pretty sure I own all the components, especially the dress. :)

  26. Hehe. Nice cover-up work, Anne. And I love the photos with Fella inadvertently included! Also, I really like the leggings and dress look on you. Especially in this colour scheme.
