Pinstripes

closet 015
Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  Mine was loads of fun, but I could use another day to relax and catch up on sleep.  In addition to hanging out with Rad, Fella and I went to a Super Bowl party with my friends last night.  Since the Bears weren't in it, I didn't really care about the game, though I did win $25 in our pool, and had all kinds of tasty eats.

There's 2 things I don't own very much of: button-down shirts, and pinstripes.  Yet this dress combines the two.  I'm actually not sure why I don't have more pinstripes.  They're a little more interesting than basic black, and vertical stripes must be slimming, right?  Button-down shirts, on the other hand, don't always fit me right, and when they do, I don't like the way they look.  For me, they feel too stuffy and professional-looking, though I'm envious of so many of you for being able to make a button-down look fun and relaxed.  Thankfully I don't have either of those issues with this button-down in dress form.

I'm sure you're all getting sick of snow pictures - trust me, I'm getting sick of the snow!  Fella and I were having a snowball fight last night when we got home.  We started out playing with Jude and the other dogs in our building, but they got bored with us.  Check out the mountain of snow behind me.  It goes almost all the way up to the roof of the one-story coach house (put another way, it's almost as tall as me, and I'm 5'9)!

  1. Love it! I badly want a pinstriped dress.

  2. You look amazing in that dress. I agree about the awesomeness of pinstripes. Does NY&Co make button down shirts that fit you better?
Going back to work after such a fun weekend is rough, but I'm being tough!

  5. 'So envious of your meet-up this weekend! Although, obviously, you and Rad have important meetings and catching up to do without IPF peeps horning in. But we fantasize about horning in on you guys all the time!

In other news, that pinstriped dress is excellent in all ways. And I love how simply it styles.

Finally, 'LOVE Jude. My FR quickly tires of my efforts to play with him in the snow. He's much more into sticking his face in snowbanks and/or checking his peemail.

  6. I'm not a fan of button-downs either - they never seem to want to stay buttoned - but this dress truly combines the best of both worlds. You look fabulous in this and the pop of purple is perfect (alliteration at it's finest).

  7. As recent as a year ago, I was adamantly against button-downs, but I've changed my mind and now I love them. This dress is killer - I would have this in my wardrobe! You look lovely, Anne!

Hey, can I be on your blogroll? :) Pretty please? :)

  8. That dress is super cute, but also extremely flattering on your body. It makes your waist look simply tiny!

  9. Cynthia: It wasn't really on my list of must-haves, but it was hard to pass up once I tried it on.

    Gina: Thank you!

Rad: Oddly enough, their button-down shirts fit me horribly. There's always a gap somewhere. I should invest in those adhesive strip thingies we saw a commercial for. Or not :)

    Rebecca: Thank you!

Laura: If you knew how much I wear that cardigan... it's far from chic :)

A-Dubs: You raise an excellent point, in that we need to plan a meet-up for those outside of TCC! I'm looking into a New York trip sometime soon, and Rad is frequently in Chicago. Just saying - either of us could play host. Also, Jude spends a lot of his time sticking his head in snow banks. He's positive there's a hidden treat in one of them.

    Gracey: Awesome alliteration!

Sheila: I'll talk to Rad about that! I have no idea when the blogroll was updated - I know Rad put it together when she started the blog, then made updates while I was on blogging hiatus last year.

Dr. Da: Thank you! The secret to the tiny waist is elastic panels that seem to slim it. I'll try to get a close-up of those sometime.

  10. @Sheila:What is wrong with me? Argh. Of course you belong on our blogroll. I updated it a little while ago and took out a few blogs that hadn't updated or I hadn't read in a while. Sorry!

  11. You're rocking the pinstripes. We have small mountains all over our little section of Kansas too and there is more on the way tomorrow.

  12. The pinstripes are fantastic! I love pinstripes but currently don't have any. That's not right.
Button downs are tricky, I think. Next time I find one that fits me properly I may buy 17.

  13. What a great dress! I only have pinstriped pants. My love for stripes tends to run horizontally, rather than vertically. I also am ambivalent about button downs for many of the same reasons. They often don't fit well on me as well as looking too conservative.

I should have taken pictures of the snow that caused a snow day here -- you would have laughed and laughed. Though the mini-FR was still totally thrown by it.

  14. I posted about snow day today too! The pinstripes always lend a little unexpected masculine chic doesn't it?

  16. Terri: I just saw on the news that Kansas is due for a lot of snow today. I hope it's not too bad!

    K. Bean: Buying in seventeens definitely sounds like a good strategy! I did find a button-down I really liked at the Limited a few weeks back, and bought 2. It's slightly more budget-friendly than 17 :)

E-Jo: Sadly, my pintstriped pants are still in the "almost fits, but not quite" section of my closet. And I'd probably just be jealous of your snow for not being several feet high.

20 York Street: Ooh, I like the term "masculine chic."
