"Professional Shot"

I just thought I'd share this photo with you all, my lovely bloggy buddies, since you gave me such great advice about the shoes to match this dress (via Laws of the General Economy). It was 80 degrees and muggy and I wore "summer weight" wool knit, and I had a blast, even though I was the only high school friend invited to the wedding (the mother of the bride told everyone that I was funny in her car pool, years ago).

I actually wore jewelry (my sister's plastic black beads). Please not the semi-incredulous look on the face of the man just above my left shoulder. Yep, he can't believe my moves any more than Blokey.

  2. LOL, Nice. We're going to a wedding this weekend, and I'm super psyched. Not sure if my dance moves can top yours, though :)

  4. Thanks, everyone! We did have a good time on the dance floor, even with my 3" heels.
FashionAddict: I bet you can really bust a move.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

  5. Fun! The shoulder cut-outs on the dress are great, especially on your frame. I'm relieved to see you're wearing black to weddings, too. Did you happen to see the discussion r.e. appropriate wedding hues on Academichic last month? A few readers vetoed black, which had me rethinking my choices. It's my go-to shade for evening events!

Your above outfit is a great example of wearing black well, I think.

  6. Anne-Marie, thanks for pointing me towards that discussion. I remain blissfully ignorant about these taboos, and I got compliments on my dress. I used to exclusively wear black to weddings because it's my go-to color and I think it's formal and looks nice. I never knew that it showed disapproval! I was in the South too, and several commenters stated that it's a no no in the South.
I'm going to a bridesmaid (matron?) in August, and we will be wearing black dresses with white layers underneath.
I think what you wear depends on the context. I would not have cared if anyone wore something like white, and a few friends wore black and red. But then again, I am not very traditional about these things. I was just happy to be with my friends, family, and my partner, but everyone has different tastes.

  7. Rad, I've already complimented that fab dress, but you look great... again :)

Black is definitely more acceptable at weddings. I actually sported an all-black ensemble for a wedding here in Chicago in May. It was downtown, so I figured it was formal enough that black was okay. And I wore red to your wedding, and it's definitely not a faux-pas.

I won't be wearing black to the August wedding since it's outdoors during what is probably the hottest and most humid time of the year here, and I'd hate to be confused for a bridesmaid ;) But I have been to a few weddings over the years where the bridesmaids did wear black - something about it always looks pretty classy.

  8. I think any color is okay for a wedding as long as it won't offend the bride. It shouldn't matter if it offends anyone else.

You look great and it looks like you had a blast! That's what matters! :)

  9. Love the dress, love the photo, love the look on your face. Your dance moves are EPIC!
Had to link back to the post of the dress discovery. I joined the clique a little later. I have so much to read! Checked out the Laws of GEcon too.
So, back to the EPIC dance moves...I'm sure you do not own a Wii, but if you did, I would propose a "Just Dance" challenge. Ask you younger sister...
