Cat Days of Summer

First, let me say how impressed and pleased I was about the interesting discussion from yesterday's post. This blogging community is clearly made of some very thoughtful and respectful folks. Why is it that some people believe that interests in clothes and style make you an airhead?
I know the phrase is supposed to be dog days of summer, but I don't have any dogs. I do know that when it's hot during the day, the kitties just lay around, all depressed and hot. Not that I am depressed on hot, but it's midway through July, meaning I have 6 weeks to be spectacularly productive, but little inspiration to do anything else. Like put attention into my appearance. I am at a weird point where, despite some occasional online browsing, I am pretty darn satisfied with my clothing collection. So it's not just boredom with my existing clothes, but rather just boredom with hot weather that doesn't allow for many layering and other remixing options.
I decided that I can use these days to practice outfits to wear on days I go to school but don't have to teach in the early fall, when it will still be nice out. This is my non-existent lunch meeting outfit. If I had a meeting with a colleague today, I'd be brining this- height and a little edge, but the all important blazer like piece. I can imagine this with the office blazer and a pair of dark wash jeans in the fall. Yep, I'm gonna knock their socks off this upcoming semester.
Anyone else feeling a summer style rut at all? Or does your enthusiasm for light fabrics and warmth have the opposite effect?

Jacket: Gap
Tshirt: Scrapbook, from Macy's
Shorts: pants from Junior's section of Dillards, shortened by me
Sandal: Tahari via DSW

p.s. Style Underdog, this one's for you:

  1. I'm starting to feel like I'm in a bit of a rut too. I am ready to wear sweaters and tights again. I think that it is easier for me to remix my clothes when I can add layers, since I can change up dresses with different colors of tights, etc. I also love fall in MN, so I think I am craving the cooler weather as well.

  2. Heat and humidity make me supremely cranky and at a certain point, I surrender to shorts and tank tops. Sometimes, comfort wins over fashion.

Oh, and you're a knockout in that shirt dress, Rad!

  3. I totally love summer. The less I have to wear, the better. I often feel like a snowman with a bulky waist in the fall/winter (I maintain that extra fabric on shorties looks bulkier than on tall folks!).

I am not in love with tights nor pants so I could care less about fall/winter. Plus my nose always runs and I get cold and never get warm again. I tire easily of having to carry around scarves, hats, gloves when not in use. Of having to find a place to stash outerwear if there's no coat check when going out.

But then, I love the muggy gust of air that greets me when I leave an A/C'd building.

  4. My mouth is still gaping as I'm typing this. That is a knock out combination! I'm loving it. Do you feel comfortable in it? You look like you own it...
I'm digging the first photo too. The black sandals look great and work so well with both outfits. Go Rad, Go Rad, Go Rad!

Oh, yes, about Summer. It is my least favorite season. It's just a dress and sandals, no fun at all.

  5. I'm more than ready for this hot weather to hit the road. Nothing I wear is cool enough, and within an hour it looks as if I slept in it anyway.
Finding clothes to wear during the first few weeks of the semester is always a challenge for me. Sometimes the classrooms are stifling hot (no a/c) and after a few minutes I can feel sweat sliding down my back.
    Then we go outside.

  6. I think it is more of a tiredness of the weather! I feel the same way, I just want to wear a bathing suit! The kitty is so cute! Im getting some kitten fever

  7. You look hot, Rad - and not in a sweaty way. Those shoes continue to kill! Also, Buster is ridiculously cute. I'm soooo loving his nose dots.

    And finally, check out Shoe-A-Day tomorrow. . . .

  8. @A-Dubs: Thanks! The jacket did get hot and had to come off. Will do! Guest post?
@Eli: Succumb to the kitten fever! It has squelched any hint of broodiness that may have otherwise existed.
@Charlotte: Yes, I'll have to strategize my first weeks of school outfits. Here's hoping for a cool September.
@SU: I actually really like the shoes, but I need a better cardigan. The one I am wearing is made of the wool and the other one I have (cotton) is boyfriend length and too loose and long. I am thinking of thrifting one sometime soon.
@JAO: I also like the hot breeze of our island (ish) cities, and as long as I'm outside and walking around, I'm fine, but as soon as I stop or wait for a train, I become sticky central.
@Rebecca: Autumn in MN is my favorite too. Even if it is a bit short.
@Sal: Yeah, it's hard to be style concerned sometimes when it just gets gross! Thanks for the shirt dress compliments.

  10. Buster! He's so the cutest (I may be suffering from kitty withdrawal)! This is a great office casual outfit and I obviously enjoy that you are taking a meeting with Buster in it.

I have found that the solution for wardrobe boredom is travel. Now I know you live in NYC where there is a lot of shopping but I am kind of like a sailor (who loves shopping) on leave here in London, even though I am fitting in the shopping around work at the BL (which is also like being a sailor on leave).

But it is finally London cool here. When I arrived a week ago it was 30+ degrees, and I know that NYC is like that right now too, but nowhere here is air-conditioned. I bought a very unflattering sundress because I had nothing heat-appropriate in my suitcase. I will not be wearing it to any meetings ever but I will wear it to NYC if I am ever there in the summer. Hope the heat breaks for you soon.
